Scandalous Fairfax county vehicle property tax

Anonymous
Just received the tax bill today: they doubled the amount and applied a so called tax relief, so my bill has still gone up. This is the tax relief I was promised? Doesn’t make any sense!

Car tax relief has been around for at least 20 years. It’s not the full amount of the tax, but it’s an offset for personal vehicles (as opposed to business vehicles).

But Yungkin promised the property tax relief: https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/news-releases/2022/march/name-930544-en.html

It's because the value of your vehicle has gone up so much based on the current market book values. Look up your used cars selling value right now if you haven't--it's worth a lot more than in years prior (Fairfax uses JD Power for their market values associated with VINs). So the tax relief eases that, but it's still gone up.

Keep this in mind when elections come around, if you can think of better ways to use your money.

Again, I stress the above that this is a decision controlled by your locally elected Democrat board. He did deliver on his end. Your Dems are the ones bending you over.

Drive old cars. It's the only way to keep you taxes relatively affordable in Virginia.

And Fairfax County is overwhelmingly run by democrats.
