The festival per se is not a problem. It’s rambunctious, sure. But shootings didn’t happen.

The police too I think went out of their way to help secure a semi-official festival this year, as they’ve done the year it started as a protest in 2020. TBH, I don’t know what the MPD could have done that wouldn’t have drawn ire; preventing it, huge issue, dispersing it before the incidents, huge issue; I think they toed a fine line and lost. Frankly, everyone needs to cool down and try to separate criminals and how crime must be addressed and well meaning people. Identity politics is doomed to fail us and DC.

FWIW and don’t shoot the messenger, the guy who rented a condo at the Shay and called the police to enforce the DC noise ordinance probably didn’t think he was stepping on a cultural icon.

And the astronomical crime rate in Virginia reflects that, too! There was a shooting at the Rolex store in Tyson’s mall on Saturday FFS! VA has FAR more shootings and murders than DC.

There was a gun discharged at Tysons on Saturday by a DC criminal, but a murder on U Street with several others wounded over the weekend. NoVa is far safer than DC.

Virginia lets anyone buy and carry a gun. It is NOT safer than DC and the statistics plainly show that. There are far more shootings in Virginia than DC. Look it up.
