I agree. The Chamber of Commerce should release the video so that we can have the direct quote. What do you think the Chamber is covering up? |
So how do you feel when Ward 1 councilwoman literally tells people to “insulate” their homes if they don’t like the illegal ATVs and presumably shootings? I ageee with everything you said but there must be effective response to the current situation like the driver getting shot at 2 days ago in the middle of a busy street and day from an ATV. Not a peep from the people you describe. That’s why I want change, not because of some perceived ideological divide. And certainly not out of racism |
I don’t even know there’s a cover up? Could there be? I would not even speculate, but if I were forced to, I’d guess it was some clumsy statement that was then reframed to cause faux outrage. Could be completely wrong. I don’t think anyone in the running is a known racist? I know some people said one candidate made anti-Semitic statements but I’d like to see quotes before I believe that too. Overall, I’m not pleased with the level of discourse from any of the candidates. It’s at the playground level of you are… no you are… when there are serious issues to address. |
| I would have loved to have seen the Post endorse Trayon White. That would be like the WSJ endorsing Marjorie Taylor Green. |
| Just generally understanding people’s needs and how badly some are affected, rather than mocking and dismissing based upon preconceived notions would’ve been a great start. For example, it really is impossible to soundproof from ATVs who run the whole night and it is so badly affecting children and adults. I’ve watched kids in our neighborhood not be able to get up or function for school, regardless of the race. Sleep deprivation is a known form of torture, so is noise. No exaggeration. And yet we mock and laugh at people until they go quiet about it. Ditto crime. It wouldn’t take a lot to try and find a solution. |
If you know who the PACs are then it's not mysterious. You can look up the individuals that contributed to DFER. |
If it was simply a clumsy statement or being misrepresented, the video would make this clear. The fact that the video is not being released suggests that the video is not exculpatory. Also, you have referred to a statement by a Council Member about insulating houses. Do you have a direct quote of that or does your interest in direct quotes only go so far? |
Actually you can't. DFER is funded through a chain of non-profits and the donors to those are anonymous. That's why they call it dark money. In his blog post Matt Frumin insinuated that the Walton family (of Wal-Mart), Koch Brothers and Rupert Murdoch were funders of DFER but I don't know where he's getting that from. |
What are these then? https://www.opensecrets.org/political-action-committees-pacs/democrats-for-education-reform/C00417733/donors/2018 |
I’m my hypothesis, I assumed the Chamber was neutral. You are right, I continue to withdraw any conclusions until I see the quote. Regarding Ward 1, I checked and I don’t know what was said since I can’t find it but the recent statement referred to “Set first-of-its-kind standards for soundproofing in new residential buildings, with higher standards in entertainment districts;”. That’s suggesting to me that the retellings saying residents should soundproof homes were most probably taken out of context. So I just went on her official Twitter too now and the search does not pull up one single mention of ATVs. So I still think Ward 1 must do better. Thanks for keeping us honest. I think people are really feeling the impacts of things in their daily lives and so trying to listen well and do better will be important. I for one have no interest any longer in any ideology and don’t vote by party affiliation. I will do my best to understand the issues, but it can be hard. |
Wrong entity. The entity that's been dropping hundreds of thousands on Ward 3 is called "DFER IEC." |
That is a probably related organization, but not the actual group involved in DC. The group here is "Democrats for Education Reform DC IEC". You can see their most recent campaign finance filing here: https://efiling.ocf.dc.gov/FinancialReports/EntireReport/30897/IECNOF150001_2022%20June%2010th%20Report_%20Original It shows only one contributor, "Education Reform Now Advocacy". Good luck trying to find out where that money came from. |
|
I will say just one more thing. I would be far more concerned with money flows if I didn’t acutely feel the problems people list on this board. I am at the point where I will vote for anyone with the courage to solve them FAST. I will not vote for anyone who advocates that we need to study the issue that has been demonstrated and has a solution, and used for be better, for another undetermined period of time. I don’t like where I am but there we have it.
|
Then why didn't the Chamber release the video? |
I agree with you here. One of my issues is schools in Ward 3, and we're facing the same problem with being told we need to study the issue more and find a better spot for new schools. We can open the old GDS campus immediately and alleviate the overcrowding issues at Wilson, as is in the mayor's plan. Goulet has promised that he will obstruct that and look for "better options" which show no signs of appearing anytime soon. |
