Miami of Ohio, in Oxford

[and, yes, I know the history and reason for the names; still funny]

It’s Miami University. Not “Miami of Ohio”

It was a university when Florida belonged to Spain.

What? Plenty of people call it Miami of Ohio. Did you go there?

She is obsessed with "correcting" people on this. Every thread. It absolutely is also called Miami of Ohio.

I don't know why top PP, added it to the list. Colleges with ambiguous location names, are difficult but not really humorous (add Wash U and Washington College). Insisting on calling it University of Miami, is funny. Calling it Miami of Ohio, is just full disclosure and a conversation starter if need be.

Explain. I hear people say this, but don't get it. Sinuses are funny? Sounds like urine? I won't defend Uranus, but I don't hear anything with Ursinus. Plus it's Latin, so wigging out like it's unpronounceable, is a yokel move.

Oh, c'mon. Kind of a blend of urine and anus. It's for fun; we're not being mature and scholarly here.

I've always thought "Case Western" university sounds kind of weird.

^ Actually, it's "Case Western Reserve" which is even weirder.

The ads got me all mentally tangled every time.

They renamed it University of Maryland Global Campus, which doesn’t really roll off the tongue either.

I had an "experience" with a guy from Elon. Let's just say that will forever be in my head whenever I hear the college name

And UMGC sounds too similar to UMBC.

It was a merger of the Western Reserve University and the Case Institute of Technology. Leaders or admin tried to brand the school as just Case, with the WRU part of the name deemphasized, which honestly would have probably been a good idea along with the right branding strategy, but I think alumni reacted poorly and this nomenclature was dropped
