Swanson - surprise choice for new principal

Personally, I'd prefer public school kids wear uniforms. It would solve so much.

I'm more for personal freedom when it comes to dress codes, both for public and private / independent schools. In fact, a number of parochial schools in other cities have since moved away from uniforms. A no uniform approach is the more "traditional" one in the history of public education in the U.S. And some of the best independent schools like St. Albans have relaxed, if more formal, dress codes--shirts (could even be polka dot) w ties, or turtlenecks, shorts on hot days, etc.

The current trend is more casual and comfortable clothes, and that's likely here to stay. That's a good thing too! No one cares about having the latest Canada Goose jacket anymore.

I prefer working in a school with a uniform vs. a dress code. I work in early elementary education and clothing can be surprisingly distracting at that stage. Uniforms in public schools don't seem to be common around here though.

I think uniforms would be great, and so much easier.
