They’ve been using them at gunston since some time last fall. They can access them a few times a day, but not between each class. They aren’t allowed to bring their backpacks to class. |
My kids had a good experience Swanson when she was principal, but I have boys, so I never had to deal with her dress code nonsense |
That is not nonsense. The lack of dress code enforcement anywhere in APS is ridiculous. |
Huh? Girls are getting dress coded daily. |
Not at Yorktown! |
Agree. There are so many variables here. I've had 3 go through WMS, and it's like a different school for each one due to their teachers / peers / decision-making (sometimes poor decision-making). Plus, social media is not a reliable resource. Do people remember the telephone game that highlighted how quickly rumors start and expand? Social media not only expands but amplifies the rumors. Do not believe everything you hear on social media. |
TJ doesn't have lockers either. |
Best thing I've ever heard about Yorktown |
Loft was Swanson principal when our child was there. I loved her. Very sharp and organized. Great communication from the school. I was sorry to see her move away. |
Ok- I’ll bite. WHY shouldn’t there be a dress code?? |
DP, but girls are dress coded because they "distract" boys. Boys are RARELY dress coded unless wearing things like shirts with overtly sexual/inappropriate content. Dress codes are traditionally unfairly target girls and are used to body shame them. We need to stop this mentality that girls are to blame for poor boy/male behavior. |
+1. She’s a great principal and clearly loved it. |
I’m sorry, but I disagree. Girls are getting dress-coded more often because they are more often dressed inappropriately. Not comfortably, either. Not for themselves, but, I’d argue, for attention from boys, which is sad to see happening. Regardless, school is a place of learning, and a reasonable dress code (for all students) should be enforced. |
I absolutely agree that girls are not to blame for the bad behavior of boys, I still think it is acceptable to have a reasonable dress code that can apply to all students. |
Yeah, she was a bit over the top with her dress code obsession. That's the only interaction my kids really ever had with her. And they quickly learned to just avoid her in the hallways. Minor point but it will be interesting to see if she still chooses to focus in this. Swanson seems to have much bigger issues at the moment. |
