Welp...Ms. Hammond is leaving and going to Waters Landing, just announced at the BOE

So I guess the principal intern will become the acting principal at RCES?

The assignment at Waters Landing is effective July 1.

Has MCPS said who the new principal will be for RCES?

They can't even post the job until today since they just announced the current principal would be leaving.

How is that a reasonable way of doing things? They should have a replacement lined up before the current principal leaves. That’s ridiculous.

As stated earlier, the current principal isn't leaving until the end of June.

I don’t care. That’s not enough time to find a new principal.

Are you new here? This happens about a dozen times (at least) every year in MCPS. The board approves principal positions, so they can't post a job before the board has approved the person. HR has rules they have to follow, including how long a job must be posted (I think it's a week or two) before applications can be reviewed. 2 months is plenty of time to find a new principal. How long do you think it should take?

But she is an independent thinker, she works with kids as individuals, she treads the fine line between the community and MCPS itself and has excelled at every turn during this tricky year. Travilah is mostly not a walkable area but the new community Mount Prospect is attracting tons of kentlands families who are tired of being piled on top of each other like hamsters and there is no prettier little area in all of MoCo, 10 minutes to Kentlands, rio, 15 to potomac village, so convenient, perfect Country vibe but suburban amenities. Super multicultural and international. And travilah is an incredible school with a fantastic top tier principal.

I do have to laugh at that. I never feel like I’m piled on top of anyone!

whenever I go to a friend's at Kentlands for dinner, we can see right into the next door neighbor's kitchen. We can see them eating, and they can see us eating. I mean, I guess it's "close knit", but personally, I don't want to be that "close knit".

That really just sounds like it’s the particular configuration of your friend’s house versus her neighbor’s house. And it’s odd that they don’t have shutters.

That’s very unusual, though — that doesn’t happen to us, nor can I think of any of my Kentlands neighbors who have that issue.

I’m not new here. Just because it’s the way it’s always been doesn’t mean it’s right.

Do you think 2 months is really enough time to fully evaluate what RCES needs, which candidates are able and willing to address those needs, go through the interview process, etc.? I don’t. But then again, I value thoughtfulness and thoroughness.

It's possible the principal intern has already applied for another principal opening.

It will be the principal intern. Mark my words. Unless the principal intern is some sort of disaster on two legs, that's your new principal. I hope they're better liked.

Ideally they would have the new principal hired before July 1, but even that is not mandatory. If they're in place by late July/beginning of August that can work too. It happens every year.
