Yes but still would feel so
Bad leaving and breeder 4 hours away and wonder if it will be a setback to be back with its parent and then separated.

As PP said -- don't bring the puppy home until after your vacation. Let the breeder board and train it.

They haven't offered. We haven't committed yet.

Ask the breeder if you can pay them a fee to keep the dog for an extra month for you.

I had asked that before not as directly and
She told me to contact someone she knows who will
Board it. She has another litter just born of another breed so has like 30 puppies there now (one litter has 11)

Sounds like a puppy mill. Have you been there to meet the parents?

No haven't been. She breeds various mini goldens and mini Bernese. I heard about her from this board! She said we can go visit so I don't think a mill at all but definitely not one litter a year raised indoors either

People on this board have gotten their dogs from puppy mills. Just get the next liter.

As long as they are raised ok and not in cages etc and with kids and people, it's fine!?

Well will try but the breeder is now all cranky and said my trip is an excuse..

Just remember that your loyalty and concerns should be for the dog you add to your family, not to the breeder. Don’t let a breeder make you feel guilty for choosing the time that works best for you instead of her. For a new puppy in particular, I would never hire someone you don’t know to come check on it every few hours. If the breeder has an attitude I sure wouldn’t hire someone she’s recommending. Young puppies need the socialization and more care than someone coming in a few times a day and especially overnight. If you cannot reschedule this trip, you really should seriously postpone bringing a puppy home.

+1

A young puppy is like a baby. It needs constant presence.

Thing is that people that have 30 puppies at a time, unless they have full time staff, are not going to be able to put in the time or effort to meet their needs. Even raising one litter of puppies is an enormous amount of work. And from the sounds of it, it seems highly unlikely that the dogs being bred even have health clearances.
