McLean School

Just wondering about financial aid at McLean. Do they offer generous aid packages or do most families pay near full tuition?

He has no behavior issues and is very social and engaging in all activities. His biggest issues are poor executive function, slow processing, and language delays. We thought with the small classroom environment, the McLean school would be perfect for him. We did not apply for financial aid so I don't think that was the issue. Is it even worthwhile to apply again next year or should we try somewhere else?

Our child had a fantastic virtual interview with someone else and they really hit it off, and we loved the school info session, then we went to visit and met Cathy and it was not a great experience. It was such a let down after hearing all the great things about the school, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise as our kid ended up somewhere else that they really love.

Same experience here.

Where?

However, as your child is coming from a private, I am not sure it would provide enough additional support to make it worth it. They expect that you will pay for additional tutors if your child needs additional academic support.

So much so that the extra pull-out teachers are right there on campus! We did McLean for three years but it became cost-prohibitive. Yes, we hired additional tutors on top of McLean's tuition. It also didn't provide the support DC needed. DC needed more direction and less homework. Mclean and it's teachers were not responsive -perhaps because half of the students were not SN at that time. In the end we went public with an IEP for high, which wasn't perfect but did get DC into a good college. Check the high school's college placement if you think you are going to stay. It was not goid when we were there.

My children did a week of the summer camp last year and they had the kids playing computer games which I didn’t love. It felt disorganized. I didn’t send them back this summer.

Which camp? We have been really impressed with the reading intensive camps. DD maintains her gains from those 3 weeks throughout the entire school year

If the kid isn’t two years behind when they arrive they will be shortly. DC was there in 3rd grade and had nothing but baby worksheets for math. Went to MCps after and was so far behind hasn’t caught up.
