Maybe part of this also has to do with where the application ranks in the readers' queues. Some application readers might be a lot more conscientious than others. Some might simply skip over half of the applications and not even look at them at all. So, it could be that one kid gets in and a nearly identical kid doesn't because one kid had a good reader and one had a bad reader. |

Such a good question. My kid moved across country to a new school, then covid hit. Barely knew the teachers who wrote her recs. Very high stats and ECs, good essays of her own, but the letters of recommendation were likely meh at best. I'm sure it matters. |
