Nextdoor is everyone's grandma now.

That assumes people actually want to be around you. If people in your neighborhood don’t seek you out, and I don’t mean on a semi-anonymous app, it’s you. Spewing on some app might seem like people like you, but do they?

Exactly. Posting on an app is meaningless. Do neighbors reach out, do they invite you to their homes, small get togethers? Do kids knock on your door to play with your kids, trick or treat? No? No app will fix that.

You must be in my nextdoor. That's what I see too.

You can't really ask for recommendations anymore on Nextdoor. If you ask for a handyman recommendations, you'll get 20 people just recommending themselves,

They monitor it.

All of it. It’s a combination of people completely fabricating situations to gaslighting people for what they themselves do, e.g., speeding through the neighborhood. It’s just to get attention and social acceptance. Pathetic.

Mine too

Plus requests for recs for new HVAC heating systems and warnings about car jackings …

I like the wildlife shots …

I wish we had more animals and fewer old angry white people pushing their a-hole politics.

I was grateful for Nextdoor years ago. It was the day before Thanksgiving and someone mysteriously left a carpet shampooer with attachments and shampoo at my front door. Obviously someone was trying to drop it off for a different neighbor and got the wrong house. I was busy preparing to host Thanksgiving and didn’t have time to knock on doors. I was able to post on Nextdoor and let the intended recipient know where the carpet shampooer was. Within an hour it was picked up.

Mostly I get the same posts already mentioned in this thread though.

I also dig the wildlife shots, but the "everyone wish my son/grandson/daughter/granddaughter a happy birthday/congratulations for graduating 5th grade/etc" posts drive me batty. Save it for Facebook.

You seem biased against older people and white people. Very sad.

Posting drivel, often accusatory of others, on a semi-anonymous app builds a village? Neighborly and kind. Please.

DP - while I wouldn’t go so far as say it is wonderful - and nothing replaces real life connections - it can be helpful. It is not that bad and one can zone out the complaints.

Here are top items in my ND feed today

1. Super cute alert. The other day I was heading north on Wisconsin ave. It was literally about 6 degrees. A bus was pulled to the side blocking one lane, as I passed and felt a certain amount of frustration, I saw the bus driver walking an elderly man to his door so he did not slip. He was wearing short sleeves and it was freezing. It was the cutest thing I have seen in a long time.

2. Looking forward to info on Washington gas pipe upgrade in 2019

3. Oh Dear neighbors, We are opening our showcase in Chevy Chase in a months time. We will feature Hugh end Italian furniture and furnishings.

4. Our new family Members - rescue dogs saved from parking lot in Christmas Eve

5 Warning to knock down the giant long icicles that formed along gutters during snow and cold weather storms as they can break off and hurt people and pets.

6. Rec for handy man snow blower guy in NOVA who came at short notice and helped with many snow problems at good rates.

7. Renter searching for opinion on how to get landlord to paint grimy walls before they move in. Person has family and needs to rent by end of month

I agree with PP. I stopped going on Nextdoor because of all the racist crap. Any brown or black person in the neighborhood is automatically “suspicious.”
