+1 agree. Kids don't learn as well VL. That's been proven.

Also, most adults don't need supervision or help with tech; many kids do.

If you want teachers in the classroom being exposed to Covid from 30+ kids a period, then you can sit in your office and type away. Leadership runs from the top.

Data shows that VL negatively impacted kids. Many teachers struggled with VL themselves. Other states and countries are still doing in person school.

Teaching and children learning is not the same as adults working remotely. There are some jobs that cannot be done remotely. Your grocery store workers are still going into work so that you can get your groceries and don't starve.

IMO, teachers are essential for education for K-12. It's different if the students are adults.

Then how are there virtual academies for kids K-12 all over the world? So weird.

This. Silly argument. Actually, it makes sense that everyone else who can work remotely do so, in order to help slow the spread.

Teaching young kids cannot be done remotely. There are plenty of studies to prove that.

Just like my dentist can’t work from home.

Foolishness. A dentist can’t work from home because he/she requires to be using tools etc.

An elementary school teacher can’t work from home because he/she requires manipulatives for Math.

A high school science teacher can’t work from home because he/she requires lab equipment - beakers, pipettes, bunson burners.

Foolishness, for sure.

Did your dentist work from home for almost a year? Because teachers did.

You didn’t like it, but that’s your problem.

And that year made it clear that teachers can’t do their job as well online as they do in person.

I guess my dentist could have tried it also. Would have had the same abysmal results. Working from home doesn’t work well for certain professions.

Are you working in person? Its a bit ironic a parent working at home demands someone else work in person to care for their kids claiming its safe for kids/teachers but not safe for them.

I’m this PP. YES! I have been working in person since last July. Before vaccines were available. I’m in healthcare FFS.

Don’t bother. Every single one of these people will claim they’ve OMG BEEN WORKING IN PERSON THE WHOLE TIME!! because it’s an anonymous message board and nobody can require proof. At least half of them claim to be “frontline healthcare workers!” because they think it bolsters their argument. Of course, 90% of them are lying.

Sure. Like the PPs who spread misinformation about long Covid in kids.

Who exactly do you think is working in hospitals, or at your dentist’s office or at your pediatrician’s office?? There are plenty of us on here and we most definitely have been working in person.

Millions of people in this country have been back at work in person. Teachers should be also, as they have since Sept.

If you want to shut us all down? I guess you could advocate for that. But don’t come crying to me when your dentist is unavailable to fix your cracked tooth.

DP, and maybe because there are parents out there who prefer them for all kinds of reasons? They may or may not have their kids’ best interests in mind when choosing them, too.

Moreover, I hope you can see the difference between offering virtual to the few who want it and *forcing it* on everyone, regardless of their circumstances. Good lord, people.

I still think central office and the board of education staff could offer their services to be substitute teachers for schools that are really severely short staffed because of covid and other illnesses. Just about everybody is qualified to become a short-term sub or offer para support or they could help help teach virtual classes for students who are quarantined

Wow! What a great idea. Imagine if Board members actually stepped foot into school buildings right now. What if they actually had to try teaching a class or at a minimum, babysit the class for the day. Can you imagine the perspective that would provide?

The Board has used COVID as an excuse to deny public viewing and participation at Board meetings.

I called and verified for myself. What a sad mess this school leadership is.

Why wouldn't they? We're at the height of a new surge during a deadly pandemic. Makes sense.

Teaching can be done remotely. It was done for over a year.
Have you heard of zoom?

Why is BOE hiding at home? They need to be out in the schools with their KN95s on the ground reviewing the physical assets they are making decisions about.

The BOE and Central Office staff need to pitch in and substitute and drive buses!! One of the VA school systems pulled it’s central office staff to cover classes. This should happen here. This is an emergency, not appropriate to work remotely if you are calling students and teachers to be in-person. All hands on deck!
