Christmas Eve and the day after Thanksgiving are not Federal holidays.

I once had an employee who was FLABBERGASTED that he was expected to take annual leave if he wanted these days off.

Now I find myself wondering if he might have been OP's brother.
wait until that employee finds out someone is expected to cover those days

Yes but I'm sure you are paid better for working the holidays.

So I feel more sorry for the professor than your child, tbh
thank you!!!!

dp But this is their job. Do you feel sorry for other professionals working on holidays?

Yes I do! That's why many stores are closed on Christmas and unionized workers who are required to work are paid double time. Do you work on Christmas or even Christmas Eve?

LOL NO

Haha. Now I know who those students are who ask if they can take the exam early so they can go skiing. Yeah, sure, if I can give the exam early so I can go skiing. Which I can’t because I didn’t do the scheduling.

Whine to the university OP. I guarantee you they have a special channel for this. Which I am grateful for because I don’t want you contacting me. And save me a lift ticket. And please be patient with those grades your snowflake needs for his med school app. I don’t want to be grading on the 24th or 25th either.

Are you serious? I receive the same pay per hour every day of the year.

But I am not expected to work on Federal holidays.

Hope you never need an emergency appendectomy on a federal holiday. Shouldn’t hospitals be closed too?

What are you talking about. Tons of Federal employees work on holidays (they are called essential workers, similar to the hospital role you tried to challenge me with).

My job is not one of those. Why does that confuse you?

you should write a detailed e-mail explaining how this unfathomable abuse of human rights and basic dignity has infringed on your ability to "do humanitarian work" in Turks and Caicos. This email should be sent to the President, with copy to all Board members and your personal counsel as well - might be better if counsel sent the e-mail. also let them know that you will be sharing all correspondence with the WaPost, NY Times, LA Time, Chicago Tribune, Philly Inquirer and Boston Herald.

Please also post the response from administration here.

Do you also know that the professor has to grade those exams and turn in results and final grades within 48 hours. Do you realize what that Professor is doing on Christmas eve and Christmas day?! Instead of spending it with their family?
