Seriously! I have never heard of a basketball rec league that didn’t care about balanced teams. That’s not fun for any of the kids.

And yes, a kid who can barely dribble should get a turn once or twice a game playing point guard. It’s REC.

Coaches like you are the reason DD plays county now. The tall kid who can dribble better than the coaches kid may want to play the point on occasion or take an outside jumper instead of constantly having to stand in the post. Thankfully, her travel coach plays kids based on where they are capable of playing rather than where the coach prefers them.

What are you talking about? Every community rec league we know does drafts after 4th grade or so. Gainesville, Loudoun, SYA, CYA, Burke, BRYC, Vienna...should I go on? There is NO way to run a fair league without drafting teams for basketball.

Never heard of standing in the post being a bad thing. Isn’t that where the tall players who are good at shooting go?

It means they never learn how to do anything else in a game and the tall kids don't necessarily stay the tall kids.
