Tell Me Why You Don't Use Turn Signals

+100

I always used my signal until I moved to DC. Then I quickly learned that that just alerted the driver behind me to speed up and cut me off!

Same here, but I have been burned many times letting someone over, only to have them drive slower than everyone else, and I can't use the right lane to pass them since everyone behind me is doing the same.

Because I'm more important than you. Can't you see that from the rest of the way I drive?

Oh please. Just do the right thing even if it doesn't pay off immediately every time for you.

This is not rocket science, morons.

If you are not in a congested crowded area, it's not rocket science.

If you are on 270 or the beltway during rush hour when it's bumper to bumper and people actively cut you off because you are using a turn signal, it's best not to use a turn signal and be able to change lanes for your exit.

I’ve driven rush hour on 270, the Beltway, and major roads in San Francisco, LA, NYC, Baltimore, Detroit, Indianapolis, Dallas, Dublin, London, etc. If you can’t navigate big-girl traffic without using your turn signal—as you legally must and morally should—it’s because you are an incompetent driver.

I learned to drive in downtown Boston and I am totally Masshole driver and the turn signal business in DC is a bridge to far!

Let me guess: you get on the Beltway or 270 and immediately have to nose over to the “fast lane,” only to have to desperately start switching back lane by lane to the right to make your exit just a few moments later. Slow clap for you. Maybe if you contented yourself to stay in the lane your exit is in—or one over—instead of your screeching, signal-less theatrics, you wouldn’t find it “so hard to use your turn signal.”

Massive here. I have never been on the beltway and have lived in the DMV 8 years. I ride the metro like a normal person because I think you are all are so crazy, I won't go near you.

My only fun turn signal story is I had a “beater” car when single I use to drive into Manhattan when I hit the bars. Piece of junk.

On third Avenue the cab driver no signal sideswipes me hard and takes off I chase him 20 blocks at 430 am and catch up to him, look him in the eye and hard right slam into him hard and take off.

I miss NY. Quick justice

This story is so wrong it's right.

Some of the replies are hilarious. I sometimes signal my turn when I’m in a turn only lane but always when I’m not. I use my signal only as a curtesy to the driver behind me in the next lane that I’m about to be in front of you. Because if I signal, I’m already cleared. But on those rare occasions, when I need to squeeze in, I give you a millisecond of warning with my signal before I get in front of you. You do slow down because no one wants to get in an accident. And then I’m in front of you!

I learned to drive in Brooklyn. It was sink or swim if you ever wanted to get someplace in a timely fashion. If I had to wait until others slowed down to let me in, the bus or train would get me to my destination sooner.

Do BMWs come with turn signals? From Maryland dealerships?

Vehicles with Maryland tags have only 2 signal options:

1) no signaling, ever
2) turn your signal on once and leave it on for 3 minutes (at a minimum)

Two years ago after being in a car accident, I voluntarily took a defensive driving course. Based on some of the relies here, many of you should consider it.

Spin-off :
Why do drivers drive with the turn signal on? Like for long distances on the interstate. Doesn’t the ticking drive you crazy?

I drive a BMW and it isn’t equipped with blinkers.

Because they're incompetent (usually Maryland) drivers.

I don't understand how you can forget to turn your signal off. There is a visual on your dashboard, AND an audio ticking. If you forget, you are unfit to have a driver's license--period, because you clearly are very unaware of what's happening in your car and around you.

I actually had a crazy person cut in front of me when I was exitong a parking lot. She was going the opposite direction and almost hit me head on. DC drivers are just suicidal crazies and honestly I won't yell like I do in other cities because you all are also creep road ragers. My husband has been followed, tail gated, and harassed for yelling. So turn signal is just a small thing. The weavers also get me. My DH grew up in the DMV and he is a weaver who never uses a signal and has driven backwards on the beltway because he missed his exit. He calmed down when we moved away.

NP Kinda funny since you are mostly the only one who does it. I can always tell which posts are yours. There's another thing you do that identifies you also.
How come you never got back to Me?
