What's wrong with Sarah Palin? She's a mother, and a leader, and believed that there was no limit to what she could achieve. I'd like to teach my daughters those same qualities. Do you show your daughter her test scores and suggest she settle for a mid-level career? |

Obama did not achieve his full term as US Senator, resigning in November 2008, after serving 3 1/2 years of his 6-year term. He had other things to do. Like Sarah has other things to do. |

What is wrong with Palin, other than her views (with which I disagree), is that she has not really done anything, ever? She had a great opportunity to fill out her term as Governor, perhaps run and win reelection as Governor, and then run for Congress. In these positions, she could establish her credentials and accomplishments before taking it to the next level. Palin may be reasonably intelligent but her priorities in terms of achievement are exactly what is wrong with this country. Celebrity means achievement?? Lets hope not!!!!! While both Tiger and Jesse James are cads, Tiger is at least one of the best golfers that ever lived. JJ has nothing to say for himself!! Republicans, who consistently complain about the modern culture, seemed to have ignored this distinction when it comes to Palin. |

| My sense on the BB gun possession is that it's probably legal in the state the boy lives in (if he doesn't live in DC), and he left it in his car. No intent, no harm, no foul (except for the arrests, and of course, the four school lock-downs). Should boneheaded carelessness lead to expulsion and withdrawal of a presumed college acceptance or should it lead to suspension and probation? What if the parent/teacher/visitor who called 911 had known the boys and instead had sent them home for the day and there was no BB gun to be found, and no search warrants to be issued, and no schools to be locked down? What if the boys had then subsequently told police that they had previously accidentally brought a BB gun to school, but then taken it home? Would the police arrest or prosecute them? I doubt it. But since the witness presumably didn't know the boys, he/she did the right thing in calling 911 and the police did the right thing in their large-scale response to the perceived threat. My only point is that a different witness would have produced a different result, even though it's the same alleged crime with the same alleged confession. In most other states, I presume BB and airsoft guns are perfectly legal, although it would behoove schools everywhere to be explicit about never bringing them on school grounds. Kids know the rules about alcohol and drugs, maybe they're more naive if they want to show their buddies their new airsoft fun in the trunk of their car, that they just bought online and with which they will be shooting at empty soda cans in their backyard this weekend. Either way, it shows poor judgment to bring a BB gun to school, whatever the intent. |
