Honestly, just stop taking your sick kids to playgrounds

Woah boy. Calm down. The common cold is contagious before getting symptoms and most contagious during days 2-3 and primarily up to a week. The snotty kid is probably the least contagious person you’re gonna run into. The person you should be most afraid of isn’t even symptomatic. And echoing the PP - kids are sick ALL the time first three years. It sucks. It is a hassle but that’s just how it works. Just wait until you hit head lice!!!

If you follow the science and you sound like you do the chances of your kid getting sick from the park is far, far, far outweighed by their chance of getting sick at daycare.

Many of us have to work to get paid so we accept that.

Here’s the science, PP: kids easily transmit colds to each other outside.

Here’s the rules: if your child has a runny nose, they must be covid tested and stay home from our daycare and first grade.

Here’s how that plays out: I have to miss work to stay home with my child.

Here’s why: because you had to bring your snotty kid to the playground.

Times have changed. Just keep your kid away from the playground while they’re sick.

You can’t t tell for certain that your child picked up a cold from THAT particular kid at the playground, if you’re also sending them to daycare and otherwise being out in the community.

You still don’t get it. You’ll never get it.

Don’t come crying to us when none of your neighbors invite you to parties when this is over.

They absolutely are not getting your anxiety. That’s for sure.

DS, 3, has the tail end of a cold today. Last week we kept him home from preschool and he had a negative covid test on Friday. His nose is still running but he felt really good today and it’s a gorgeous hot day where we live. He’s been cooped-up with this cold for five days and really just wanted to go to the playground.

We did not go to the playground. We went for a long walk in a nature park away from everyone, especially other little ones, and then painted and did water table on our balcony.

It wasn’t hard not to give other kids his cold.

You expect people to be considerate... that ship sailed long ago.

The common cold is contagious whenever there is snot and sneezing. Nd you know that.

PS. Head lice doesn’t mimic the symptoms of covid.

Again, for those hard of hearing... ITS NOT ABOUT THE COLD. It’s about everything a parent and child have to go through because of covid.

Consideration for others - as far from anxiety as you can get. I don’t want other moms like me to have to miss work and get their little ones tested for covid protocols.

Then if you go to a playground and there is a sick kid there, go home. Then you don’t have to go thought anything.

+1. This really is the simplest solution. OP, you keep your kids at home and the rest of us will move on.

NP. How is that fair, pp? Ten little kids have to turn around and go home because of one inconsiderate parent? Come on...
