It isn’t obvious which way this cuts for choosing a school (assuming you’re not a president’s kid). If sta has a more academically diverse class, high fliers would stand out more at sta than at sidwell. |
Not everyone is full pay, but you knew that already, right? |
| Sidwell had 14 NMSF in 2018 and 13 in 2020, so 15/16 is not that abnormal. |
Sidwell didn’t do extremely well this year. Just some other school are not at their norm this year |
Same. In my flyover territory public school, the kids of rich parents had a decent chance of getting it. That was about it. I think 5-6 in my class got it. You had to know to take the PSAT and do more than 3 minutes of prep. And then nobody cared. |
Yes, if you didn't take the test offered by the school. |
STA is 2/3 the size of sidwell for one and more importantly size wise percentages STA sent as many kids to Ivies and top 20. Actually STA’s college admissions was more impressive overall. |
Go Sidwell and Sidwell parents prepping those sophomores on the PSAT!! |
| I think it's more prestigious making the 1600 club in the SAT. There are only about 500 kids nationwide who achieve this. A much, much more impressive and exclusive club. |
Sidwell is a different kind of student overall. Kids are not as well rounded as social as sta. Different kids. Friend at Sidwell say all their kids do is study and they have way more homework daily and over the weekend. Despite this college admissions are about the same. Remember Sidwell has 125-130 students and sta has about 80-85 max |
2 presidents that’s it |
Most of the kids on the NMSF list from Sidwell have multiple varsity letters and participate in many other activities. I don't know wheere your friend gets their information, but it isn't accurate. |
Yes, I did, but 80% are full pay,a new how many are getting aid that is even 50% of tuition? It’s a great honor to make NMSF, don’t misunderstand me. But the vast majority of SFS, including most of those on aid, I suspect, if given a choice between (a) paying full freight at HYPS or (b) getting a 50% scholarship to G’town, or Duke, or Northwestern, would chose (a). Which means they aren’t in it for the scholarship dollars as much as for the resume padding. |
Nope. |
