If you agree with the Electoral College, you agree with Slavery

It is that simple. This is a great test to see if someone is racist or not. Ask if they agree with the EC. If they do, then you know the answer.

I don't agree, but I don't think it should be changed because people didn't like the result of this election. People should work on it for the next.

It doesn't matter if I "agree" with it. It's in the Constitution. That's the way it is.

As a liberal, I am embarrassed with this whining.

If the electoral college is not the way to go - and the popular vote is more fair - then work to get it changed. But the EC has been the criteria since the founding of this country and certainly since we broke away from England so it is the method of deciding elections until the constitution is amended.

I hope you are as passionate and vocal when Trump goes after the First Amendment.

As a liberal, I am embarrassed with his whining about his suing the press and everyone who says bad things about him.

I welcome your voice to support the Constitution on this matter.

I see you started another thread. Well, I posted this to your sharing of that link on another and jic you don't see it there, here it is ON TOPIC with this one.

"One Founding-era argument for the Electoral College" You have taken that, and made it a fact. Not even the writer of the article did that. The writer did go on to share what he believes is the reason almost as if it is fact. See, he can do that since he prefaced it as he did. In other words, it's the writers opinion.

I would hope you have a broader knowledge of the balance of power, states rights, etc. but I won't hold out hope.

+1

As an African American liberal I kind of find it offensive how unhappy democrats are trying to find any way to blame the loss of this election on anyone else but the Clinton camp. I've seen rants that black people didn't get out and vote, I've seen rants that gay rights went too far, and I've seen rants that the electoral college is a sham. I know damned well why it was set up but its worked for this country for more than two hundreds years, so do not call me a supporter of slavery because you're mad this woman lost.

How about this? Hillary Rodham Clinton ran a sucky campaign, she took for granted that the presidency was hers, that white people (especially women) would actually vote for her, and we want a fair nomination process next time.

Work on changing it for the next time. Nobody was complaining about it when the media constantly outlined Clinton's easy path to 270 and Trump's nearly impossible path. Nobody on either side. It's too late to complain or try to overturn an election that was won on this method of deciding (that our Constitution states, so again, does not matter if we agree with it).

Get busy doing whatever you can to change this but you can't change the rules after the race is done.

And stop telling me what I believe in. Unlike many liberals I'm seeing right now, who are protesting Trump's upheaval of the laws of the land by actually breaking the laws of the land, what I agree with is the law of the land.

The Electoral College has NOTHING to do with slavery. One other reason it may have been set up this way is that run-offs, etc, would not have been practical at the time. Added to the fact that information was limited in makes sense.

And, today, it still makes sense. It is a balance--just like the bi-cameral Congress. The likelihood of having an overwhelming popular win and the reverse electoral win is quite low. And, no, 500K is not overwhelming.

NO in any other country in the world, a Majority vote winner is the president BUT then USA is a FAKE democracy which picks the LOSER to be president. The real loser in this is the TRUMP voter who is gonna be screwed by a recession that is gonna follow the tax cuts for the rich and the environment. Trump is not gonna get any jobs from the machines or from China. Coal is a dead industry with Solar costing lower than Coal and going lower.
