As a 1975’s fan, I can tell you that there are a million musical and lyrical references in that video alone. Go watch their videos of Part Of The Band or Somebody Else, they are identical to Fortnight. And by the way, she and Matty Healy have been hooking up for at least a decade and have tons of nods to each other in their songs over the years. He is all over her albums starting with Reputation. I know you won’t believe me, but Harry, Joe and Travis are irrelevant. It’s always been Matty who gets her going. She even said so herself: “All those nights you kept me going, swirled you into all of my poems.”

She also says “and I don’t even want you back” and “I don’t miss what we had”.

The typewriter in the video is missing a 1. She called Joe “the one”.

"You know the greatest films of all time were never made" - she has been lamenting about them being legendary, cosmic, epic, her religion for a long time, but never together because of their worries about public pressure. In her mind, their love and potential relationship was the greatest film that was never made. Also, the fans who know Matty well know that he is a legitimate cinephile - there are many references to movies, series, episodes etc. in both of their songs. In hers, they are always referencing to him.

I don’t understand people who are confused about this. She’s a songwriter, she writes songs about her experience for herself and to make money (lucky her!). She wrote an album about a period in her life, which ended last summer. Why on earth would she not release said album to spare her new partner’s feelings? This is her job!
