My sister is a PA, and a damn good one. She sees lots of patients and has a large role in surgeries, but no, not a doctor.

How long have you been dating? That's kind of sad. He's either not expecting to stay with you long (pathological, attempting to impress) or super insecure and not sure how he thinks this would play out long term.

A person who starts a relationship by lying to you about anything, is a person you should stay away from. And, that is doubly true when the lie is about something so fundamental to life like your profession (and by proxy, how much you are likely to earn and what your time/availability is like.)

Thinking about this doesn't deserve any more of your brain space. Dump and move on.

I have PA/PT family members that have a Ph.D. but they do not call themselves doctors in social settings. They are Dr.'s on published papers.

My psychologist family member expects to be called doctor though.

NP here. OP, come back and tell us what happened and if this (above) was maybe the case.

FWIW, the PAs at our doctors' office are better than the doctors are at many interactions. It's a great profession so it's pitiful he would lie about it. If this guy seems fine other than this lie I would be blunt with him and tell him you know he's not an MD, so what makes him feel he has to pretend?
