I have PA/PT family members that have a Ph.D. but they do not call themselves doctors in social settings. They are Dr.'s on published papers.

My psychologist family member expects to be called doctor though.

Psychiatrists, Veterinarians, Physicians are all medical doctors.

Physical therapists, psychologists may hold doctorates in medical professions, but they are not medical doctors.

FWIW, I called lots of my professors in college Dr. So 'n So, but it was always clear that they were not medical doctors.

^And if someone had asked them what they did for a living they would not have said "I'm a doctor".

Not the first PA to lie or intentionally mislead a women to get in her pants, e.g. "I'm a physician..."

What a shame! I'd be inclined to give him a second chance if you found out he fibbed about finishing his degree when he actually dropped out and started working a semester before or something like that, something that was unlikely to ever come up again that maybe he felt self conscious about.

But his job is going to come up daily with whomever he wants to be with. If he's lying to you about that job, he's not planning on being honest with you on a daily f*@$#%g basis. DTMFA.

How serious is the relationship? Maybe he just says doctor on the first couple dates because he doesn't feel like explaining the difference between that and a PA and a nurse.

If I met a veterinarian who insisted on being called "doctor" I'd laugh in her face. Give kitty her annual shot and shut up.

Physical therapist degree is not a PhD, it is "Doctor of Physical Therapy".

lol like he went to medical school after pa school? Riiight.

Uh that's exactly what I did.

It could be that the info you found on Google was incorrect or that he went back to school and got the m.d. Not likely, but maybe you could try to find out some more details to clarify, IF you are otherwise interested in him. Signed, a Doctor of Law (J.D.)

Please . You wanted to tell your friends you were dating a doctor and now you can't. You both are pathetic!

Uh...Vets ARE called doctors because that's what they are. They go through veterinary med school. I've never heard of a vet imply that he/she was a physician/surgeon to humans. They are usually pretty proud to be called animal doctors.

Physical Therapists are usually pretty proud to be called Physical Therapists. They usually don't go around presenting themselves as physicians/surgeons because that would be misleading. Plus, they are proud of what they do.

Oh, please. The guy was caught in a pretty significant outright lie. He was misleading her on purpose. That's bad. I don't care what your profession is.

Just the mere fact that he intentionally lied to you should in itself be not only a huge red flag, but also a deal-breaker.

If you continue to date this man, you will never know if & when he is telling you the truth.

Trust me on this one.

Been there....Done that.
