Have our playdate soon (for 3's program).
Anyone been there done that and care to share insights as to what to expect? Any advice about things to pay special attention to or questions to ask? Thanks for your thoughts!! |
Anyone? |

I thought they did a nice job- we were brought to the little house in back in the playground. They had the room set-up with various toys and clay and crayons etc. on the table. The kids were allowed to play while the parents sat off to the side. All the kids in our session were sweet (no clinging to parents, etc) and there were about four teachers and the admissions director interacting and playing with
the children. After a while they gathered the kids for a story and then a snack. It was a nice playdate - although all the parents seemed a little uptight and nervous - I guess that is normal! I definitely felt like they were "evaluating" the children perhaps a little more than at Little Folks, for example, where we also applied. But less intense than (based on what I have read here) Aidan....... All in all - not a bad experience. I felt like they wanted to get to know my child and it gave me a sense of how they treat the children as teachers. I like the school. |
that's nice that they let the parents stay in the room. we just had a playdate at franklin and they did not want the parents to stay in the room. |
OP here.
Thanks so much! That's very helpful. We are coming in from out of town (from NYC) for the process - which is a lot of disruption as it is - so I want to be able to let my child know kind of what to expect. |
Your child can expect to see happy kids that s/he may never see again because none of them will actually get into the school because - whoops! - all the siblings took spots after they take your application fee. ![]() OK, so obviously we didn't get in, so I have zero credibility, but rumor has it (DC loves rumors) the applicant list is about 300 kids long each year. You do the math.... Welcome to DC! Seriously, it's great here. |
Holy Trinity took my pre-k application fee (and I'm sure the application fee from a lot of other families). Then I received a letter two weeks ago stating that all their nursery students are moving up and they will not be accepting any new students this year. |
Sidwell told me not to bother applying for a non-entry year. The very nice woman on the phone said they didn't want to take my money when the chances of there being an opening was so low and the process so onerous.

Has anyone actually known any children who get into NCRC without having older siblings there - or some sort of other insider connection? Thanks! |
Yes, several non white children. |
Our white kid was accepted. We didn't have anything going for us in terms of connections, extreme wealth, etc. Perhaps you should reapply next year. It worked for us. |
Yes, I know quite a few caucasian children with no connections and no sibs who have gotten in. We didn't, though. |
Have people heard back from NCRC this year? I thought we weren't to hear for a while yet. |
ditto - I thought you did not here until March? |
