NCRC admissions process advice

Poster meant was accepted as in last year or in an earlier year. Sibling letters go out this month. Then they decide how many spaces they have left for non-siblings. They also wait until all the other schools send letters so they know which of their older kids were offered pre-k spots and therefore how many spots are available for older classrooms. This is done around March 15th. Check their website for dates.

Just curious - did anyone write letters for you?

We're applying this year for the first time, and let's just say I don't feel too hopeful!

Maybe this is a stupid question - but why do these schools bother to take so many applications (yes, maybe to collect some money) but also to go through the whole playdate process, etc? Seems like a lot of work - just to collect .....oh, well I guess it could be 10-20 thousand dollars if they really do get 300 applications! Did I answer my own question? Is it "income" they expect each year?

How would they be able to limit the number of applicants? It would be unfair to tell people they cannot even apply.

Maret and Beauvoir limit the number of apps by requiring you to tour the school before you apply.

Anyone been there done that and care to share insights as to what to expect?

Any advice about things to pay special attention to or questions to ask?

Thanks for your thoughts!!

it helps to know people most of the people i know whose children attend there are connected in some way. in fact, one girl i know who attends literally does not utter a word or even smile and does not talk or interact with other children. her parents are connected and i presume that is the only way she got in.

NCRC always takes 2 or 3 kids with special needs so it may not be all about connections, though I personally don't doubt you.

Not affiliated with the school, but they do have a commitment within their mission to accepting children with special needs. The girl you are describing sounds like she might fit into that category.

yes, i am aware of that, but i don't think that is the case. i know the family quite well and i have never heard them mention that she has any special needs. i think she just has an awful personality, which i know sounds mean to say about a child, but it is true. her mom is actually the same way...never smiles, never says hello, cranky, etc.. anyway, she is well connected so i'm pretty sure that is the case. if i had any doubts i would never comment on a special needs child, as i think that is such a special thing that ncrc does.
