For the last two days none of the kids at my child's Bar-T program have been allowed outside because some of the kids are misbehaving (too loud, not listening). I am furious that on two of the nicest days we've had all year, and after a long day at school, my kid has been kept indoors. He also assures me that he isn't one of the kids misbehaving, which makes it worse.
Is this standard Bar-T policy at other schools? Are your kids routinely denied outdoor time on nice days? Thanks. |
| That's horrible and violates common sense and research about what kids need. Especially on days like these. Definitely complain. |
| What's Bar-T? |
Yes, this! And no, it's not OK. |
After care |
| At afterschool??? Oh wow, I would find another afterschool program immediately. The whole point of afterschool is to get kids running around outside. |
| Are you sure it was because of misbehaving or because of the clown issue? Our school held indoor recess for two days because of threats to the schools. |
| No! Our Bar T lets them out every day if possible. I'd bring it up with the director. This is one of the benefits of aftercare. I expect them to run the kids around! |
Really? Are you in MoCo or PG? |
| Moco and some of our schools had indoor recess. |
| Haven't seen it in aftercare. My son reported it happened on the third day of regular school though. Same situation, many kids misbehaving but he wasn't one of them. At any rate it's totally wrong and makes behavior worse. |
| Instead of coming on here and complaining, why don't you go and talk to the director about what happened and why? Ask nicely and figure out what the policy is. You should have a dialogue with your child's caregivers. |
| Just asked my kid about bar-t. He said you have to sit down for 5 minutes, then can return to play. If you continue to misbehave after that, then you can't go outside, but the rest of the kids do. |
Yes because all of the clowns killing.

While I agree the OP needs to go to the director directly, it is nice to get feedback in what other Bar-T after schools are doing. Some may not be following their stated discipline policy. Have you seen the Bar-T workers? They look like they rather sit inside than play with kids anyway. |
