2 Maryland speeding tickets

Anonymous
Recently moved to Maryland and got a speeding ticket for driving 42 in a 25 zone (didn't realize the speed limit). My father in law was visiting from out of state two weeks later and got a ticket in a similar way. We have learned our lesson to pay closer attention to the speed limit signs but the two tickets arrived in the name of my husband who has title to our car but wasn't driving. Both tickets are for 40 dollars with no points to his license and we would pay them and settle this issue but I'm worried about the impact of multiple speeding tickets to my husband's license. (If he gets a speeding ticket, is there a 3 strikes rule?). The ticket says we can provide evidence to contest the ticket but it sounds like my husband will have to go to court (twice) if that were the case. Anyone have advice on this situation? Both my Fil and I can write notarized statements that we were the speeding drivers and pay the fines but I don't know if that will be sufficient or if my husband will have to take 2 days off of work to contest the ticket.

To clarify, both FIL and I got tickets from the SafeSpeed cameras with no face showing on the pictures (not a police officer) which is why my poor husband now has two tickets in his name.

Speed camera tickets are like parking tickets. They apply to the car and not the driver, and no points are applied to anyone's license.

And don't bother contesting them.

They don't count against your insurance either.

No points. No effect on your insurance or driving record. And no chance of beating them. Pay up and move on.

Agree re no points. It's the car not the person (since they don't know who was driving). Since you are new to the area be warned that there are speed cameras and red light cameras all over MD and DC. Sometimes they are pretty obvious, other times much harder to see. In MD they tend to be near schools.

If you want to keep an eye on whether or not you have any other outstanding speed camera violations, go to this website. https://wmq.etimspayments.com/pbw/mocoNewInputAction.doh

plug in your tag number and you'll find out if you have any other speed camera tickets

Pay the tickets and move on. It wont affect anything.

Not worth contesting in Maryland, but if you get one in DC your chances are pretty good.

how do I check for tickets

These tickets don't get reported to your insurance and don't stay on your record. Install Waze on your phone. It will alert you to speed traps.
