why and how?
I got a $100 (highway robbery) one in DC and would appreciate how to contest.

Me too! But my ticket is $150 .... Going 41 in a 25-zone. Ugh.

The default speed limit in DC is 25 - in other words if you weren't on a freeway you should assume the speed limit is 25 unless you know otherwise. Some arterial roads have a 30 MPH speed limit.

So what exactly are you going to contest or what is your grievance here?

BTW if you had hit a pedestrian or cyclist at that speed you likely would have killed them.

Pay the fine and pay attention to the speed limit next time.

Slowing the F down is also a proven way of eliminating tickets.

42 in a 25 is ridiculous. That means you were going 42 on a neighborhood street. That's too damn fast. Pay up and slow down.

NO, but I got a ticket for going 38 in a 25 that was in a tunnel below an underpass on K St NW with no sidewalk or way that anybody should be outside of a car. No, you don't have to be driving up a neighborhood street.

$40? Damn that's cheap for 17 mph over. But it's just another money grab by a state that already taxes the hell out of you. Welcome to Maryland.

In DC, the minimum is $100 and goes higher depending on the speed.
I would take $40 in a heartbeat.

I got a ticket for $100 going 36 in that same tunnel.

All the speed camera tickets in MD is only $40.
Now compare that to DC where you start @ $100 and up

Congress told the District that they could not impose a commuter tax on Maryland and Virginia residents. They were wrong.

As others said, these tickets do not go on your license, do not give you points and do not affect your insurance rates. Strictly a money grab.

If this was truly about safety, it would be just the opposite.

And fortunately for the District most Maryland drivers are too stupid and impatient to avoid paying this "tax."

These complaints about tickets on the K Street underpass are so tiring.

First of all there are sidewalks crammed with pedestrians on the east side of the underpass so no the District really doesn't want you speeding through this tunnel and if you are the magic driver who can somehow speed in one place and not another then that means you also should have the self control to simply not speed in the underpass.

Secondly and more significantly that underpass is almost always congested and backed up so unless it is after hours you are likely just wasting gas by speeding through there. Not that too many suburban drivers are smart enough to figure out the stupidity of hurry up and wait.

The way I see it is, price it low enough without further ramifications and people won't mind as much. Bottom line is simple, it's another way to raise money from taxpayers.

And I have never understood the legality of fining the owner of the vehicle when they aren't driving.

Do you also struggle with understanding the legality of parking tickets?

I will never vote for an incumbent politician in Maryland until the speed cameras are eliminated.

This is what its all about, if it was something safety related they would paint the cameras red so you would know where they are, and drive the safe speed.
