Real estate agent rude to my child WWYD

Anonymous
We took our 8 year old son to an open house yesterday in the neighborhood. Our child is very spirited and likes to walk around by himself. He went to the basement because that is the area he likes to explore and we went upstairs to check the bedrooms. I overheard the agent ask him to stay with his parents because he was not allowed to see the house on his own. I found it very rude that we would be invited to the open house but our child could only see the house with us. Is there a place where I can complain?

Is this for real? No, you don't get to allow your kid to "explore" by himself in someone else's house.

This is too cliche. I call troll.

You should keep your child with you when you visit a stranger's home.

What? I think the realtor was right. It's an open house but that does not mean that unsupervised kids can roam freely. His job is to be watchful of someone else's property and it sounds to me like he did his job well. I'm not saying your son was destroying anything but the realtor's request was not rude.

-mom of 8 year old boy too.

Sound like a great agent. You are a lousy parent who makes excuses for your brat who cannot behave. Your kid should stay with you and not touch anything.

I hope your're yanking our chain here.

I'm 100% sure they are.

I agree this has to be a troll. Even the most snowflakey of parents aren't this absurdly snowflakey about their "spirited" kids.

In any case, I'm firmly Team Real Estate Agent.

I'm on Team Agent. You are out of line for even thinking this agent was rude. Entitled much?

A+ trolling, really top notch. Well done, OP.

Are you kidding me???? Why weren't you chaperoning your child?

The agent deserves a round of applause. You were wrong for letting your "spirited" child run around unsupervised and putting the agent in a position to do your job.

Watch your kid, it is not the agents job.

Team OP. Agent can request that they not touch things, but can't forbid the kid from wandering around. No point in offending potential buyers.

I think you're taking "open house" a bit too literally. It's not appropriate for an 8yo to wander a house alone.
