Currently TTC for our first child but just started. Not doing any basal temping or ovulation tracking, just want to try and let it happen when it's right. But feeling anxious about this new chapter and how long it takes to get pregnant.
Wondering how long it took for some of you to get pregnant with Baby #1 (not including those who got pregnant unexpectedly LOL). Please humor my curiosity and entertain my anxious First Baby energy. How long did it take you to get pregnant with Baby #1 after stopping birth control? |
| Two months. |
|
We did what you did for a year with no results. Then I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility, learned how to time sex for the fertile window (without temping or using ovulation trackers, just cervical mucus) and got pregnant the next cycle.
You don't necessarily have to temp or do anything else but at least read the book so you know what you are doing. It doesn't just happen for everybody and if you are feeling anxious, why compound it? |
| Took eight years (from 30-38). Ultimately used donor eggs. There is no predicting fertility, but you are unlikely to be this unlucky. |
| 18 months for first pregnancy starting at 32 which ended in a miscarriage. Two more pregnancies after that and have my dd finally at 35. |
Pp here that 18 months 6 were just trying and year of opk and temping. |
Statistically even if everything is right, temp, ph, sperm at the right time, egg descends at the right time you have abou 25% chance to get pregnant every month. That's with the timing being perfect. At least figure out how long your cycle is and approximately when you ovulate and have sex more than once that week otherwise it's just a waste. Yes you could be super fertile and get pregnant immediately but it's less likely. |
| It took us 9 months, the last 6 of which I was temping and charting. OPKs never worked for me (to hell with "the test line must be darker than the control", I never even GOT a test line) but temping was really helpful. Charting also came in handy for figuring out my due date as I ovulate very late so I knew not to be freaked out when baby was "measuring small" at the ultrasounds. I knew she was just a week younger than LMP would suggest and convinced them to just change my due date. |
| First cycle. |
| First cycle for three children, third cycle for fourth |
|
OP, i know how you feel, we were there 2 months ago.
Took us 2 months to get pregnant. Went off of BC early July, got pregnant sometime in August. I'm almost 7 weeks now. (I'm 33) All I used was an online calculator to figure out when I would be fertile. Good luck! |
| Third cycle at age 33 (using OPKs). First cycle age 36. |
| First cycle for 3 pregnancies, first ended in miscarriage. Temped for the first cycle and used OPKs for next. Was 30 for first, am pregnant again at 33 with second. |
| First try at age 40; daughter now 23 months. First try at 41; ended in miscarriage. |
|
First cycle for first child at 32. Am 35 now and have been trying for #2 now which is not going as well. Got pregnant after trying for 9 months but sadly that ended in a MC at 9 weeks. Now trying again and it has been two months and no luck.
FWIW, seems like in my group of friends most people either got pregnant in months 1-3 or 9-12. |
