I have it set up (through find my friends) so I can stalk my DD's and DW's Location. DW can stalk me too. It is useful to understand when DW will be home for getting stuff ready, and sometimes I can not be reached at work; DW can see which office I am in (I work at 3 or 4 sites; two do not allow cell phones).
But, last night, my DD was coming home from a HS Band event. The scheduled arrival time for the busses home was 3:30 AM. I had gone to sleep early to get up in time (we had to drop DD off at 6:00 AM). I woke up at 2:45, saw DD's location, and realized she would not be in to 4:15 or so, so I went back to sleep for one hour. That is why I stalk my kid: for more sleep for me. |

Reason enough.
Congrats on the extra hour of sleep. |
| Of course, simply having your kid next when they are at or near the school works too. |
That only works if OP will wake to a text rather than an alarm. I won't wake to a text, and I wouldn't want my kid calling the house waking everyone. So I'd need an alarm to wake me at pick-up time, but being able to confirm if they're close before getting up would be nice. |
Plus, DD was sleeping on the bus. The best thing would be to have the phone set an alarm when they were within 20 miles of me. Actually, that may be a good app. |
I would not call that stalking. I told my kids I am tracking them (as long as they live under my roof and/or rely on me for supports (especially the phone).

Good for you! |
| You stalk your wife's location? |
| I dare my husband to track my ass. |
| Humm ok. My husband and I use it all the time. My car broke down and he easily found me. |
Not very often. Usually only when I am trying to get dinner ready, and wanting to know when it should be done She tracks mine frequently. |

I love Find My Friends. DH and I can coordinate without lots of texting back and forth when we divide and conquer with our kids on outings. Plus, I can check and know whether he'll get home from work first or I will, so we don't have to text back and forth about that, either. Makes pick-ups and starting dinner really easy.
Good for you, OP. One extra hour of sleep is like a vacation

This sounds creepy.
My kid went out of town and he was scheduled to arrive hom at 1am. He texted me at 11:30 to say the new arrival time would be 12:30. I had my alarm set to midnight to see if there were any updates on arrival time. What's so hard about this? |
Well, the reality is the bus left the site of the completion after midnight. The kids went to sleep on the bus home (they left the school around 7 AM, and were tired). When I went to sleep (early because I had gotten up really early the night before to get my DD to school before 6), and when I got up at 2:45, the only note was that they were leaving just after midnight. My DD was probably asleep. I was able to see where they were and knew it would be fine to get to the school at 4:15 AM. How is that creepy? |
| My husband being able to see where I am when he wants to know when I'll be home or if he needs to pick up our son without having to interrupt me with a text or a phone call is one of the best things about cell phones. Track away, I have nothing to hide. |
