For me, there was probably an inverse relationship between attractiveness of the girlfriend and the quality of the sex. My wife is pretty well in the middle of both scales.

I've had exGFs/lovers who were physically incredibly hot but who were also tragically flawed (emotionally, intellectually. etc.) that made them unappealing to me.

DW is by far and away the single hottest woman I've been with and after 3 kids, her "flaws" make her even more appealing in my eyes.

How older are you OP? I can't imagine comparing an late teen/early 20's yr old to a maybe 30 yr old. Very different, you know. Don't live in the past. Unless you are filthy rich, you aren't getting a college aged women when you are older than 30.

I'll Speak for my DH and say a resounding YES, because though I look great now, I WAS way hotter when we were dating in university. He would say I look the same, though.

Yes, but it's not fair to compare an early 20s to 40s, men or women. Comparing them both at age 20, it's about even for some, except one gf who was smoking
