Embarrased of In-Laws

My In-laws are lets just say...sophisticated rednecks. They have blue color roots, support trump, have no manners and are racist. They think school is a waste of time and eating healthy is just b.s. marketing.
I cringe so hard when I'm around them. How do I deal?

Mine aren't that bad, but here is what I do. Spend as little time as possible with them. Have your DH make all plans. If he is anything like mine he will forget and you will be in the clear. When they are at my house I do laundry, nap the children, go grocery shopping and take the kids with me, go on a walk...anything to get out of the house. It is really hard to deal with!

They are probably embarrassed by what they see as their judgment and snotty DIL. So that may make you feel better.

Maintain different social spheres, and see that one as little as possible.

Play mental bingo. Make a list of the most offensive (to you) things they do and say, that way you're hoping they do and say them. Then when they DO say and do those things, your smile is genuine.

Mine were college educated liberal white trash. They thought when my husband's feet hit the floor in the morning so should mine. If he worked, so should I. Democrats to the bone, they watched CNN ALL DAY LONG. Cheap as hell, crunchy before crunchy was in, rude like you wouldn't believe.

Now they're dead so I no longer have to fake liking them.

Well, thankfully they had the sense to send him to good schools. He also tends to lean very right and is dismissive of higher ed and still stubbornly eats white bread to make a point. haha. Love him to bits though!

Oh, the horror of blue collar people! I don't know how you endure them, OP. BTW, being blue collar doesn't equate to rest of your description. There are plenty of blue collar people who don't support Trump, have beautiful manners, and aren't racist.
