Crazy jealous of all these big law firm salaries!

That's all. I'm not a lawyer but damn... I really should have been!

They're earned, to say the least.

Former biglawer here. Went to the fed because biglaw hours sucked. Well, hours at my underfunded agency suck nearly as much. And I make less than half of my former salary.

The best thing about my new life is not having to track every six minutes of my life.

I'm a legal secretary. In the month of August my boss (whose hours I enter) worked every single Sunday, at minimum slightly over 4 hours. What were you doing on summer weekends? Not working?

I almost became a lawyer.
Their starting salary is what I earn now, in my 40s, with an MA.

But their wage per hour worked is probably less than mine...at least, that is what I tell myself.

Yes, the very least. I'd like it if he'd go in-house or government, or something, and would gladly accept the lower pay that would mean.

what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I'm not a lawyer, but I worked in a law firm for many years and you couldn't pay me enough to do that job. What's the point of a high salary if you are working all the time and stressed beyond belief.

Most lawyers aren't in Big Law. They do slip and falls for jack shit.

My H is not a lawyer but an IT consultant in a specialized technology. Last 4 months he has worked 70hrs/week, yes he bills at 150/HR but we didn't go for any vacation or even a weekend trip to the beach. Fortunately for him the super crazy hours are 4-5 months in a year and the rest is sane. Let me assure you, it's HARD. I work 40hrs/week and I have had to manage the household because he doesn't have a minute.

If it comes with 80 hour weeks in office and travel, no thanks.

Lol Biglaw lawyers complaining about 80 hours a week making 300+. You do know that there are bunch of jobs with similar hours but much less pay? Accountants for example? Ceiling 100k if you lucky, 4 months a year you forget you have home! Working till 2am with no weekends. And yeah you can't take "work home" as it is illegal actually to take anything home.
Think about it next time you complain.
