Hypnotherapy alternative for anxiety issues?

Anonymous
So I'm a female who had anxiety issues since I was a child. The earliest memory of it was screaming for a kid's ride to stop because I was so scared and riding the school bus and thinking it was speeding. As an adult I still anxious especially before a plane takes off, when I have to make a speech to strangers, and when I ride a new park ride. I've never been on a roller coaster. I don't want to try drugs but I read hypnotherapy could be useful. Anyone try it?

The anti anxiety self hypnosis/ meditation CDs really helped me through a rough patch. And now there are podcasts, YouTube etc. try it!

Have you looked at EMDR? It is a bit controversial, but the army uses it for PTSD.

CBT is an evidence based therapy. So is exposure therapy (for phobias, not generalized anxiety).

+1

Read the book "the body keeps the score". It's been used with great success.

Also, tapping can help. Here's a quick youtube that shows how it works:

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. EMDR will really help with this. EMDR allows us to process stuck memories of trauma.

I found that yoga nidra helped me regulate my emotions and manage my anxiety better than all of the drugs I've tried (long list), and most conventional therapy I've done (lots of time).

My parents took me to see a therapist when i was a kid when it was clear my health anxiety was too much. I don’t know what type of practice it was, but my therapist did hypnotize me once. It was amazing. I still remember the calm that washed over me. I don’t know if that was specifically what helped me, but my anxiety was greatly reduced for years. As an adult, I’ve had a lot of success with CBT. I don’t have time for therapy right now so I’ve been using the app Clarity, which is a good alternative.
