LAMB - SD campus drop-off

Anonymous
New parent at the So. Dakota campus and was surprised at how chaotic drop-off seemed this week. Is that typical? Is it because there are quite a few more students there this year? Just due to it being the first week and families lingering?

The hallways were jam packed trying to navigate to the classroom, put kids belongings away, etc. Finding a parking spot on Perry St. was crazy too. Maybe it was just me, but I felt exhausted getting in and out of there each morning.

Any tips from veteran parents (particularly parking)?

LAMB alum. My advice - do not ever even try to park on Perry Street. If you get a spot, you will be trapped trying to leave.

We always parked on Quincy Street and walked 5-6 minutes to the building. Other families parked on the side streets on the other side of 18th.

Older children are allowed to be dropped at the door (4th grade and up) but I would imagine more parents are walking them in for the first week of school. The little kids will also get better with the cubbies, putting on slippers soon and their parents can get in/out faster.

I think it's busier with the new classes added. I think the LAMB administration should be more pro-active about giving parents guidance on where to park, and etiquette about parking there.

Also think the principal and assistant principals should be walking around, assisting, talking to people. I haven't seen this when I did drop off.

Thank you! Very helpful - I knew there had to be a tip about parking! And you're probably right that parents are coming in and walking their kids to the classroom, chatting, etc. more this week than average.

Agreed. I'm actually not sure I've seen administration at all in the mornings.

LAMB is always like this, lots of people talking and jamming the hallways. The good side of this is that parents are really wanted in the building and encouraged to be in the life of the school. Then the flip side of this is the over-reliance on face to face communications.

I'm not sure it will ever smooth out much, but you'll figure out a good parking trick. when the kids are older they can walk in themselves so you can do drop off without getting out of the car. Also try to carpool.

They are usually walking around. I haven't seen them this year but I usually see Mr Yombo

Not at LAMB but I live nearby. Just a note to say to please be considerate to the people who live there and are just trying to get to work. To be honest it is not usually the LAMB parents I see causing bottlenecks when I'm out walking the dog, it's the Maryland residency cheaters dropping their kids off at Perry St Prep. And before you ask how I know they are residency cheaters, it would be one thing if you see an occasional grandma dropping off a kid with MD plates. It's another story when you see people repeatedly saying "bye mom and dad!" while exiting cars with MD plates.

Good to know, thanks! I guess I need to get over my anti-social "get in, get out" mentality to drop-off ?

Not for nothing does LAMB stand for: Latin American Montessori Bilingual.

It's a warm and welcoming place and a great school but is not run by stereotypical 'Type A' white women. Basically slow down and embrace it. It's great.

Same thing happens to us outside Stuart Hobson.

I resemble this Type A remark and am pretty offended by it. Some of us, white, LA, black and other have to get to work

There are other schools for people who are offended by this remark.

Stop trying to stir the pot. Everyone is welcome at Lamb. It's a friendly place.
