Hilaria noted she suffered from eating disorders, both anorexia and bulimia. Regardless of whether she is at a healthier place now, she had to know that all of the lingerie selfies would be "triggering" for others who suffered from the same eating disorders. It seemed that so much of her approach was "don't hate me because I'm beautiful (or skinny or perfectly fit post partum). It just wasn't authentic.
Ultimately, that was her downfall. Taking Amy Schumer to task for body-shaming a person with a seemingly perfect figure was clearly a strategy that backfired. Don't hate me because I'm thin and my body bounces back...knowing full well the pain and shame that anyone who has ever had an eating disorder has experienced about how fat, ugly, unattractive they feel...and particularly after giving birth and trying to get back in shape. She knew full well that her videos, photos and posts could have easily triggered the same emotions that she admittedly suffered from for many years. At one point, she said her dancing did not allow her to have a healthy relationship with food/her body, to the point that she broke her hip in her 20s. I agree with many who have posted regarding the lack of authenticity. What is happening now is not bullying, as many who have defended her have claimed. Sadly, it's more of a comeuppance. The cultural appropriation is a separate and serious matter. On a less serious level, but still important, is how she knowingly triggered people who suffered from the torture of wanting to be thin and would abuse their body to do so. Look at her bounce back to perfection while so many in her wake knew it was nearly impossible and felt bad about themselves. If she was oblivious, it would be so much less offensive. But she knew, because she had suffered too. "Don't hate me because I'm perfect" seemed to be her mantra, particularly with regard to Amy Schumer. Hilaria had much to be grateful for and didn't need to seek so much attention. I hope she gets the help she needs. |
She is clearly severely mentally ill. Celebrities, rich people all have issues just like the rest of us it seems. |
I don't see that post. Did he take it down? |
I'm the poster who wrote that. I couldn't remember-- how you say in adult English- stomach. |

Alec has bid Twitter goodbye for now! Probably the healthiest option! |
This post reminded me of sitting around watching TV in 1986 with my Spanish host family. They watched TV ALL THE TIME. They were super-psyched to watch this movie on TV -- they were talking it up for days and I was trying to figure out what pirana meant in Spanish -- then I saw the movie and was like "Oh....it's the fish": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piranha_(1978_film) I don't honestly remember any of the shows they watched -- just the Piranha movie. |

Exactly. She is dedicated to the Misleading, yet techincal truth. |
Alec must feel silly being forced into this position. The truth is obvious and he sounds ridiculous, a sort of Hollywood version of Bagdad Bob claiming laughable things in a desperate bid to bend the world to his will. No wonder he went off Twitter. If he says nothing, it could be construed as damning, if he says something he sounds like a silly man. Unwinnable. |
PP here, I'm a mother of an elementary kid but don't refer to myself as a "mommy"--I guess those who use tummy and mommy are the same people. |
