| How much do you pay per month to join? Specifically the Olney location? Has anyone successfully negotiated a lower rate? Their page is not loading for me. https://www.yourclub.net/JOL/Plans/1246/110 |
| I feel bad that no one has replied. Does it help to know that I pay $21.99 every other week at one of the Rockville locations? Their memberships allow use of any Golds in the DC area, so prices are probably similar. They don't bill monthly anymore, because this way makes them more money. |
| It is possible to get a lower rate. They have student discounts, etc. They cut a deal with my au pair (based on her student status) and actually a very good rate for personal training. |
You are paying way, way too much for a Gold's. |
| Thanks PPs! I was able to call to get a rate but my bigger question (but I was not clear) was if you could negotiate. I appreciate your replies! |
This was basically the same rate that I was quoted at a Rockville Gold's several years back. I think there is a $5 to $10 range per month. Can't remember if it had to do with paying a higher initiation fee and/or choosing a contract or going month to month. If it's a corporate gym, they have a family type of membership where it's a flat rate for up to five people or something like that and you can use any of the corporate gyms. I think the cost was about $100 to $120 per month. I think some of the Gold's Gyms that used to be Fitness Firsts, were still honoring the Fitness First rates, which were about $20/month. Not sure if they're still doing the same now. In the area that I was looking in (Rockville) and from looking at it at the times I did, which wasn't crowded at the time, while Gold's Gym might seem kind of pricey for what you get, there are some noticeable differences from gyms that might offer a little bit more for the money. The equipment is on a bit higher grade, the place is nicely organized and everything is where it should be, cleaner, the classes in session at the time weren't packed, etc. I tried waiting to see if they'd offer any better rates. Where the membership person would call following up but didn't really change much on the prices offered. But I'm not really a good negotiator to begin with. |
| Forgot to mention that for that group rate, ideally everyone is supposed to live in the same household. But have heard of different people mentioning that the sales people say that didn't really monitor or watch it closely. So just need one person to sign up as the main person for that membership and add everyone else on. It sounded kind of complicated if it wasn't really a case of people living in the same household. ie if some people decide they want to go to another gym. So I never joined in on any of those. |
I pay $30/month at the north bethesda locaiton. |
Were you a Fitness First member that was grandfathered in? |
