Jury duty in DC superior court : dress code? Ipad?

Anonymous
I have jury duty today at the DC superior code. Is there a dress code for men? I'd like to wear shorts and sandals (not flip flops). Is it OK to bring an ipad for the waiting time?

No dress code and the iPad is fine.

Don't wear shorts. Disrespectful

Dress like you would for church or work, NO IPAD.

For juror selection on the first day (as supposed to being selected to serve), you can likely bring an ipad for waiting areas, but not into the courtroom. Do not wear shorts!

You're not on vacation at the boardwalk. No shorts or sandals.

You can wear shorts and sandals. I had DC jury duty last week and certainly did not dress like I was going to work or church. I'm not on trial and didn't feel the need to dress "respectfully" (whatever that means).

That said, in some places inside the air conditioning is really, really cold, so you might not want to wear shorts for that reason. Last week I was in voir dire for hours in a courtroom that felt like it was 60 degrees. I had long pants on but was still uncomfortably cold.

I feel like I know so many people who have been called to jury duty last week and this week, in MD/DC/VA. Is this an especially court-y time of year?

Technically, shorts and sandals are allowed, but I agree with others that you should dress nicer than that. Sort of casual Friday at least. The iPad is okay and they have wifi you can use, though for a long time DCUM was blocked. However, it should work now.

IPad is fine in the waiting room where most people spend most of the day, but if you get called to a courtroom you can't use phone/iPad so I recommend bringing a book or magazine bc there is a lot of waiting in the court room sometimes.

Wear whatever you want, minus something vulgar or truly ratty. You are the one performing the service for the system. You have an obligation to attend, but not to dress in a particular manner.

That is funny! You shouldn't upset the courts of DC Jeff!

I'm a lawyer. I'd dress nicely (business casual) if I were chosen for trial. But to sit around like cattle and wait to be called for voir dire? No way - wear whatever is comfortable, and bring whatever entertains you.

Everyone seemed to like my Make America Great Again shirt and hat combo when I was there.
