Hammock Beach Resort in Florida

Anonymous
Has anyone stayed here before? We are considering it for March. The resort seems really big - is it too crowded? The pools look great and we have tweens so they are fairly independent. The hotel looks so far from the beach though. We would probably stay in one of the main towers. Anyone have any experience here? Thanks!

Stayed multiple times

Place is not as large as it seems on the website. Have never been there when it was too crowded.

Not that far from the beach at all

The pool, pool bar and lazy river are simply amazing. Not a ton of food options but there are a few good spots on site

Highly recommend

We just returned from a 2 week trip there and really enjoyed it. If you are use to beach houses where you step right out onto the sand maybe the hotel seems far, but it really is ocean front. It took us less than 5 minutes to walk there. We had a 3 bedroom suite in the main tower. From the 8th floor we could see the ocean but not always the beach depending on the tide. The North Tower overlooks the pools (and the ocean) and the South Tower overlooks a driving range (and the ocean). It is possible that the North and South Towers are more updated than the main tower. Our room was fine (clean, everything worked), but the furnishings were worn as were the carpets.

I agree with the limited food options on site, but I think most if not all rooms have full kitchens and there is a Publix nearby. Also a few restaurants nearby, though I don't know if they are all open year round.

To be honest, the pools were a little crowded for us. Not a lot of room to swim but plenty too cool off or stand around and chat. My 11 year old didn't care for the slide but enjoyed the Lazy River. Also, there are 2 other pools (one near "The Lodge" one near the South Tower) that were empty most of the time so we used those when we wanted.

I would be a little concerned about the weather in March depending on what kind of vacation your are imagining. North Florida may still be chilly for swimming, and I am not sure which pools are heated. There is an indoor pool, but the chlorine smell is unbearable. Really terrible ventilation. However, it will likely be great weather to see St. Augustine. We went a few times and it was really interesting and fun (and hot!).

If you are into boat tours, skip the St. Augustine Scenic Cruise and go for a private tour from ECO Tours. I think it was $250 for 1.5 hours for our family of 4. It may sound pricey but it was really lovely (saw dolphins) and compared to what we spent going into some of the touristy St. Augustine places it was a bargain. I also highly recommend the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.
