Left a title 1 school for a more middle class one. Now totally get the complaints about hyper specific and very extensive back to school lists.
Ds's list was all name brands (every item) and included a special set of pens that cost $15 (?!?) dollars. For kindergarten. Ok. Vent over. |
| That's insane. |
| K. do not use pens. They must be for the teacher. |
| this name brand bs is so bothersome. If I'm contributing to a community box, I should be able to buy whatever I want. |
|
Buy a $2.00 pack of Bic pens.
Your kindergartner will not use the pens. The teachers do not care or notice if you bring the specific brand of expensive pens. |
I buy the generic brands. If they don't like it, too bad. |
| Please tell us what pens are so special that all the kids have to pay $15 dollars for them. I just bought two nice pilot pens for work for $9. |
| Do you mean dry erase markers? The kids use them on white boards. |
Yeah I've never seen a K list with pens on it!! That would be annoying. |
| I've been pretty shocked how expensive Post-its are relative to other supply requests. |
curious, apart from the pens.... what other "name brands" was she asking? is the teacher going to pilfer from the kids? |

Our elementary school is like this--all brand names. Everything has to go into the kitty anyway, so just buy what you want. I got sick of buying my child the requested Fiskars scissors every single year. They'd go into the big box of scissors, and at the end of the year when they doled out whatever supplies left that the teacher didn't want to hoard, the child would bring home some dollar store scissors and other crap.
Buy what you want. No one is going to do anything about it. At our previous school more than half the kids brought no school supplies. So guess what, our school supply lists requested us to bring in insane amounts of things, like four boxes of crayons and 30 glue sticks etc. They figured the conscientious among us would supply enough for everyone. This would have been fine if they'd requested it openly, and if we could have afforded it. |
| I have never understood the supply list. Why? |
| I think the brand is just an example. They select t based on a supply list that has brands. Buy whatever kind you want...at least that is the way it is at our school. |
| You don't get the best for cheap. I bet you'll get that iPhone but complain about education , so typical |
