Are your teens cool or nerds?

Are your teens the cool kids? Or are they the nerds?

Nerds are cool now, didn't you know?

Mine is a nerd. Band, Pokemon, staring at computer games. He's happy and that's all that matters.

Nerd, it's so cute.

My opdest is a nerd, but fcps is a great place to be a nerd. It is the mothership calling home all thenerds.

My younger two are smart, but happen to have befriended more of the "cool" jock type kids. I think it is harder to be a cool/smart kid around here. Right around late elementary school that circle starts disparaging smart kids or kids who do really well in school. My second has mentioned that several of his jock buddies have started making comments about how school is stupid, smart kids are not fun to hang out with, not to be too smart or you will get made fun of, etc.

I think it is harder to be yourself around here when you hang with the cool or jock kids. The geeks in general seek to be more accepting.

Does anyone have a "loser" kid? You know a kid with no friends and no real interest or hobbies. I always wonder what their parents think.

My kid and her friends are both. They play Pokeman Go, they joke about being basic bitches shopping at Forever 21 while holding Starbucks, but then DD goes home and teaches herself math and does science experiments for fun.

My neighbor's son is like this. He struggles socially and starting at the end of ES, he retreated more into video games. Now he is 16 and his only friends are from online gaming. I rarely see him. Maybe two or three times a year.

That is so sad. I wonder how parents can help in that situation if at all.

cut the gaming cord, and send him to a summer camp.

Interesting. At my high school, many of the "jocks" were also great students.

What does it matter? Anyone remember The Breakfast Club? Why are we still labeling people?
