Why do people think it's okay to smack gum all day long?

Our area administrative assistant chews gum every minute of the work day, except while she's on the phone. Does she think we can't hear it? UGH.

Because they are disgusting. Cow practice.

It's not nicotine gum. New poster here by the way. It is rarely nicotine gum. It's gross, disgusting people who have no manners. I don't understand. You wouldn't you Food with your mouth open. So why do people smoke crack and chew gum with their mouth open. So disgusting and annoying.

Obviously this is a habit that annoys the f*** out of me. But hats off to the people who tried to look for a redeeming reason. Tyry to have perspective and all. That is admirable.

It would just be nice, even if weird nicotine gum, to not have to hear it

I did this in HS- never in my professional life. But every now and then when I have a piece of gum, alone, in the car, it cracks and smacks and is a delight! I don't even realize what I am doing for the most part. I bet that she would be receptive to how it affects you if you just tell her.

Our admin does this as well and we have an open office. So irksome.

I've put people out of my home for smacking gum.

I chew gum nearly nonstop bc I have a medical condition that results in an extremely dry mouth. I've tried hard candy but gum lasts longer and has fewer calories. When not using gum/candy my mouth is so dry that my lips stick to my teeth and it becomes difficult to speak. I wish I could stop bc I don't think it looks nice but, right now, I don't have other options. All doctor recommended products have not helped.

What's wrong with chewing gums? I don't but why does it bother you. It's not like you are next in line waiting.

It's the sound. Her desk is just outside my office. It's very loud.

No way. She's sensitive about everything and she supports more than 10 people. It's just a very unprofessional activity, especially in a law office.

So gross. I taught my kids that the only appropriate place to chew gum is in the privacy of their homes. I don't think most people realize how truly tacky it is to chew on a wad of gum. Somewhere along the line many parents just stopped teaching manners.

I've been chewing sugarless gum at work in an effort to lose weight, it has helped quite a bit in the last few months as I've stopped snacking mid-afternoon. I had no idea it could be annoying anyone, good to know.
