Why are we doing this when we need more grant money in the us for poor citizens and companies here?

Do you have the same problem with the grants the US gives to other countries?

Nothing new, US borrows money to give it away, has done so for decades. Do I think it should? Absolutely not. Hilary Clinton said it herself, "We created Al Qaeda."

We should give grants to poor here and to start up companies here instead. We have millions of people in the us struggling.

We need to cut back money in other countries and invest it here. Same with gorgon students - particularly cut back on students from countries that sponsor territorism.

We do this to help stem the tide of radicalization. The Middle East is made up of disproportionately young people who are disproportionately unemployed. Stable, employed citizens are less likely to be radicalized.

^ I would imagine they are less likely to become refugees as well.

Vote for Trump.

This is why I am voting for Trump.

OP, it makes no sense for our country to be doing this.

So supporting groups that what to fight for democratic governments, woman rights and against terrorism in the Middle East and Africa makes no sence to Americans. Isolationism will not make America stronger or safer.

You know trump can set the nukes flying and no one has the authority to stop him if he is president...hope that helps u sleep soundly at night.

???

Well, Gaddafi was in power for about 40+ years and the US govt doesn't give grants to countries that are sanctioned.

Really? The LA shooter and Orlando shooters were employed. Also, several of the Paris and Brussels shooters/killers were employed too.

There are a number of US government funded scholarship programs for foreign students, not just those in the Middle East. I've known several students who came to the US as Muskie Fellows:

One graduate of this program, a woman, is now the Defense Minister of Georgia.

That's great but wouldn't it be even better if we gave these grants to our own citizens so one could be our Secretary of Defense - maybe someone from a poor neighborhood? One thing we should ha w learned by now is giving money and "helping" people does not mean they are our allies. In fact they often use it against us. Why do we have to provide these grants?

No program is absolutely perfect or has an absolutely perfect record of success. But if providing a US education results in other countries being more effectively run and friendly to the US, that is a lot cheaper than trying to deal with failed countries that are unfriendly to the US.

We can and should do more than one thing at a time. Providing foreign grants doesn't preclude providing domestic grants as well. If you are looking to save money, there are a lot of options beyond these grants. Paying for education makes a lot more sense than paying for weapons. All of those US-supplied Humvees being driven by ISIS could have paid for a lot of education.
