2010 FCV vs ECNL (3-0-1)
FCV 1-0 over Arlington (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-1 over FC Delco
FCV 1-0 over Bethesda (ECNL National Semis)
FCV 1-1 to Bethesda (ECNL National Semis)

But you know, only 1 or 2 players are good enough for local ECNL teams. Maybe they should just move over the entire team to ECNL-RL, that way regular ECNL teams wouldn't have to worry about losing to them.

2009 FCV vs ECNL (2-4-0)
FCV 3-2 over Bethesda
FCV 0-2 loss to PDA Blue (ECNL NATIONAL Champions)
FCV 0-1 loss to SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 1-3 loss to NVA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-1 over NVA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 0-7 loss to Penn Fusion (Ouch, that's a bad one)

Despite the one blowout, the 09s still played close games to some of the very best ECNL teams. Looking at PDA's record, VDA also lost 2-0 at the same tournament to PDA Blue, but hey you know, FCV players aren't good enough for them either.

2008 FCV vs ECNL (2-1-3)
FCV 2-0 over PDA Blue (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-0 over SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-3 loss to NC Courage (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 1-1 tie to SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 0-0 tie to Penn Fusion (ECNL National Semis)
FCV 2-2 tie to PDA Blue (ECNL Playoffs)

Wins over ECNL Playoff teams and only one loss in 6 games to ECNL playoff teams, VA parents like "that's not good enough and only 1 or 2 of your players are worthy"

2007 FCV vs ECNL (2-3-1)
FCV 0-1 loss to PDA Blue (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-1 over World Class (ECNL National Semis)
FCV 1-5 loss to Penn Fusion (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 0-0 tie to SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-1 over Penn Fusion (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 1-2 loss to World Class (ECNL Playoffs)

I won't post 06/05s because most of them will be graduating and aren't part of the conversation. But in case you were wondering, they have a winning record against ECNL Playoff teams.

FCV vs. ECNL overall (9-8-5) ***should be noted almost all games were against ECNL playoff teams, but "your girls are only good enough for ECNL-RL teams"

Shame on your ignorance. Shame.

I saw the tournament match where 2010 FCV tied Bethesda. Some of the people around that Bethesda team thought—and had good reason to think—it might compete for a national championship. BSC’s coach was furious and seemed shocked when the match ended in a draw. I missed the tournament’s final where FCV beat Bethesda. I wonder what the Bethesda side’s reaction was then. Folks just aren’t familiar with FCV, and they buy into the notion that GA is inferior so FCV must be inferior.

Disappointment at getting a tie against FCV and then realizing that for a run at a National Championship is not in the cards is not the pro FCV flex you think you're making.

Love it. The only reason 75% of local ECNL players don’t have to worry about their roster spots is that there are 6 ECNL teams to absorb the players from just one FCV GA team. The entire situation stinks for everyone, for the FCV girls whose club blew up and are losing their coaches and teammates, for the ECNL players who will lose their roster spots, and for the parents of both who will have to spend more time driving to practices.

So true! It's not a good situation for so many.

I wasn’t trying to make a “pro FCV flex.” I was trying to give an example of how ECNL parents and perhaps even coaches are ignorant (which is not a pejorative term) about FCV quality. If I wanted to make a “pro FCV flex,” I would have pointed out that the 2010 Bethesda squad is pretty good—they beat NVA, VDA (2x), Brave, and McLean/Union in the Fall 23 season. Perhaps Arlington would have got ‘em.

Ok, how about this. Pick any ECNL club to go up in flames and all of their players now need to look for a new team.

Same analysis. I don’t think you’ll hear a lot of FCV families say the club (pre-current disaster) was, or its players as a group are, better than what you’ll find at the local ECNL clubs. But you do hear a lot of ECNL people dismiss FCV players, which I think is a mistake. Unfortunately for all of us, we’re about to find out how many FCV players can displace ECNL players at their clubs.

It’s not like all the FCV players currently live in Loudoun. Some are already making long commutes to practices. Some of the ECNL teams could be a shorter commute for them.

I tend to think that if they live closer to ECNL teams, and could make the ECNL teams, they'd already be playing on the ECNL teams.

If that’s the case, I certainly wouldn’t my DD ECNL team to play them and get embarrassed by a RL team BASED on that post of results.

It’s not like if CC can pull a rabbit out of his hat and you want to move over there in a month that they’ll say no.

What percentage of FCV GA players can or will unseat current ENCL players? When that doesn't happen for most, what is the next option, hope to unseat ECNL-RL players?

There are five ECNL teams in Northern VA and one in Montgomery County. Folks here like to talk about drive times, but FCV’s GA families (and ECNL families) have traveled all over the country for years for soccer, they’re not now going to join an inferior team just to avoid a lousy drive to training sessions. Clearly, not every FCV GA player is going to get a spot on one of those six teams, but they only need to displace the bottom 8% of those 6 teams for the top 50% of FCV’s players to find an ECNL home. Even an FCV hater has to acknowledge that the top half of its GA players are easily better than the bottom 10% of every local ECNL team. The only question is how much more than 10% of those ECNL players lose their places and have to move to RL.

My DD is on an ECNL team. You are right, there are FCV players that can displace a 1 or 2 players on each team in each age group. But, it's more than just talent, it's chemistry of a team, player attitude, expectation of WHERE you'll play, is there that position available and how many minutes, and of course, work ethic. Coaches know their players and not all of the 8% will be replaced.

You are wildly underestimating how these clubs operate and what drives their decision making. It’s money. They will gladly add a half dozen FCV players, bump the roster size up by about 4-5 players, push a player
down to ECNL-RL, and (in Fall) not roster 5-6 girls every game.

Yup! Surrounding ECNL clubs will definitely make room for FCVs best players. Some ECNL starters will become subs. Existing subs will get moved to ECNL-RL. And families will sit tight and accept this because well, where else are they going to go? FCV? or VRSC? 🤣😂🤣

If VDA would hold all Girl's ECNL practices at Long Park, I think they would load up on some of the best FCV girls. But that drive out to Woodbridge/Dumfries will keep a lot of families away.

Shame.

See you on the gfrl roster next season!

If that’s the case, I certainly wouldn’t my DD ECNL team to play them and get embarrassed by a RL team BASED on that post of results.

Good luck next season!

2010 FCV vs ECNL (3-0-1)
FCV 1-0 over Arlington (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-1 over FC Delco
FCV 1-0 over Bethesda (ECNL National Semis)
FCV 1-1 to Bethesda (ECNL National Semis)

But you know, only 1 or 2 players are good enough for local ECNL teams. Maybe they should just move over the entire team to ECNL-RL, that way regular ECNL teams wouldn't have to worry about losing to them.

2009 FCV vs ECNL (2-4-0)
FCV 3-2 over Bethesda
FCV 0-2 loss to PDA Blue (ECNL NATIONAL Champions)
FCV 0-1 loss to SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 1-3 loss to NVA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-1 over NVA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 0-7 loss to Penn Fusion (Ouch, that's a bad one)

Despite the one blowout, the 09s still played close games to some of the very best ECNL teams. Looking at PDA's record, VDA also lost 2-0 at the same tournament to PDA Blue, but hey you know, FCV players aren't good enough for them either.

2008 FCV vs ECNL (2-1-3)
FCV 2-0 over PDA Blue (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-0 over SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 2-3 loss to NC Courage (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 1-1 tie to SUSA (ECNL Playoffs)
FCV 0-0 tie to Penn Fusion (ECNL National Semis)
FCV 2-2 tie to PDA Blue (ECNL Playoffs)

So much effort trying to measure up to ecnl when it was available to you the whole time. Now your ga club is in the gutter and you’re trying to convince yourself that your dd is better. You’ll find out that in a 1 hr tryout that outside of the top 3-5 players there won’t be much difference to have a coach pick a new player over an incumbent.

This whole ECNL vs GA argument of who is better is such a joke. There are good ECNL/GA teams and there are bad ECNL/GA teams. FCV might be falling apart so parents should look for the best alternative that fits their kids. FCV might be fine, but just in case, have a plan if it isn’t. It’s just that simple. I know ECNL parents who are excited for possibly adding talented FCV players and parents who are worried. This is parents’ anxiety during tryout season every year. Get over it.
