This is exactly the problem. Revolution needs those FCV GA players to come over because without them, what possible argument can they make for the club being “good enough” to be accepted by the GA? But if you’re an FCV GA family, do you trust that CC can cut a deal to get them accepted into GA without first being able to prove to the GA that yes, Revolution does have the talent and here are their new player cards (ignore the fact that they still say FCV 😉)? Quite the leap of faith that FCV families are being asked to make and I don’t envy them. The good news is that time is on your side. You can afford to wait until March for ECNL ID sessions to start (and honestly, I know some players have already reached out to ECNL coaches to “attend a practice”). It’s not like if CC can pull a rabbit out of his hat and you want to move over there in a month that they’ll say no. |
What percentage of FCV GA players can or will unseat current ENCL players? When that doesn't happen for most, what is the next option, hope to unseat ECNL-RL players? |
Well, that is the question isn’t it? And talent aside, there is also the sometimes insurmountable matter of “politics” to overcome, as well. I’m sure a few players would find a team at an ECNL club but how many, I wouldn’t even begin to speculate. |
There are five ECNL teams in Northern VA and one in Montgomery County. Folks here like to talk about drive times, but FCV’s GA families (and ECNL families) have traveled all over the country for years for soccer, they’re not now going to join an inferior team just to avoid a lousy drive to training sessions. Clearly, not every FCV GA player is going to get a spot on one of those six teams, but they only need to displace the bottom 8% of those 6 teams for the top 50% of FCV’s players to find an ECNL home. Even an FCV hater has to acknowledge that the top half of its GA players are easily better than the bottom 10% of every local ECNL team. The only question is how much more than 10% of those ECNL players lose their places and have to move to RL. |
| 2 hours round trip to practice 3x a week + games/scrimmages isn't nothing. Not the same as traveling for GA games or tournaments. |
This. |
| Plenty of ECNL teams need players. FCV parents would be silly to not even look. No harm in looking. |
My DD is on an ECNL team. You are right, there are FCV players that can displace a 1 or 2 players on each team in each age group. But, it's more than just talent, it's chemistry of a team, player attitude, expectation of WHERE you'll play, is there that position available and how many minutes, and of course, work ethic. Coaches know their players and not all of the 8% will be replaced. |
Love to hear an explanation. Plenty of them need players? |
Every single one of them needs impact players. |
It’s not like all the FCV players currently live in Loudoun. Some are already making long commutes to practices. Some of the ECNL teams could be a shorter commute for them. |
This feels like a car salesman trying to convince GA kids to come for a test drive just to see. Soon to be followed by a suggestion that if you're willing to make the commute and spend a year on the B team maybe there will be a spot for you in the future. |
| Okay, don’t check out ECNL teams. |
You are wildly underestimating how these clubs operate and what drives their decision making. It’s money. They will gladly add a half dozen FCV players, bump the roster size up by about 4-5 players, push a player down to ECNL-RL, and (in Fall) not roster 5-6 girls every game. |
LOL, FCV 08s can beat or play with any ECNL team in the area. Same with other years except maybe the 09s but then again they only lost 2-0 to the defending National ECNL champions. Pretty stupid comment from a hater. Who knows, maybe even your DD will be benched for an FCV player with that kind of ego. Karma. Remember that. |
