Not sure this is the correct forum, but here goes: We are scheduled to have our trash and recycling picked up every Friday morning. Last Friday, they never came to pick up on our side of the street. This is not the first time this has happened, but in the past when it has they have usually come the following day. We waited through Monday and finally called Tuesday morning to a rude, abrupt woman who said someone would come to get it.
They did come, but the amount of time our trash was out had repercussions. When I went to bring our barrels in, it reaked. I looked inside, and saw brown liquid on the bottom with maggots swimming around. I immediately called them back and was told to "buy disinfectant". I did that, but it didn't help. The barrel is literally unusable, even after washing out with bleach and water twice. Each time we call, the rude woman defers to her supervisor who operates by having her voicemail collect the calls. Has anyone else had problems like this? If so, how did the get it resolved? |

Umm scrub your trash can. These things happen.
Best way to get rid of maggots is to leave the lid open. Birds love them. |
Ummm I already did, as I stated above. Still didn't get rid of the stink. And your obtuse response still doesn't get at the core of my question - who can I field my issue to other than the knuckledraggers that answer the main line? |
Did you actually scrub it with a toilet bowl brush or did you just pour bleach in and hose it down? |
I wouldn't be able to reach the bottom of the barrel with a toilet bowl brush. Besides, that is a reach far beyond, considering that the county's negligence is the cause of this mess. What is with the hostility? If you can't offer anything constructive, STFU! |
| Isn't trash pickup in Fairfax done by private contractors? Get a new company. |
No, it's not. |
In some parts of the county, it is done by private contractors. In other parts, it's county pick up (you pay for it as an additional charge on your tax bill). |
| Tell them the trashcan was damaged by them and ask for another |

Maggots are in that stage for 3-5 days. Did you keep a sample of them to bring to court for when you sue the county?
Also, have you had your meds checked lately? |
Pot meet kettle... I think it's clear why you are having trouble connecting with someone at the county org...
