I was just quoted $100 for 75 minute session, with the aim of meeting every day for two weeks. Total: $1K.
Goals are to review 4th grade math skills, and sessions would take place within tutor's immediate neighborhood vicinity. Does this seem high to you? I just have no idea, since we have never supplemented before... Thanks in advance. |
| It's not unheard of, but you can get good tutors for less. Note: we found a good tutor on Wyzant, but didn't realize the company took 40%. |
|
We pay $50 per hour for our math tutor, who is an ES teacher. We have tutoring year-round, an hour per week
|
| Wow. Maybe I should moonlight as a math and physics tutor. This is ridiculous rates, IMHO. |
| 50 per hour, great two tutors, calculus, but we do 2 hours at the time to make it worth to the tutor. 50 per hour sat and act tutor. craig's list. We got really lucky with math tutor, took some trying out...I was quoted 200 per hour for sat, and even a 100 but we can't afford that. |
| Not high at all for an experienced tutor. |
May i ask what neighborhood this is? |
| I would pay less to a high school kid -- they know the curriculum and where it's going better than someone older and they would likely be more fun for your kid |
| My son started using one at the end of last school year. She charges $60 an hour, but will do a lower rate for a longer term commitment and paid upfront monthly. |
| You can definitely find lower but real question is why you would do this to your 5th Grade child? |
|
Keep in mind that the easier the math that requires a tutor, the more skilled the person needs to be in pedagogy. Don't underestimate what you need just because most high school kids could handle the content.
I can tutor calc no problem. Give me basic algebra 1 and I would struggle more. Different skill. (Note, I have tutored, but don't tutor now). |
| $40 an hour to a teacher. She's fantastic. |
| $70 an hour for experienced mcps math teacher with special ed background at hs level. |
| My daughter, high schooler, tutoring kids for $25-40. Maybe you can find someone in your area who is in advanced classes and has a specific interest in math. All parents of the students are happy with her and using her for last two years. |
| I was quoted and paid $120/HR. We went once, I talked to friends about this, and i learned that no one else pays more than $60/HR. |
