Math tutor rates?

Do people get tutors for other subjects, or is it generally just math? Right now, we have a tutor for our rising 7th grader who is in advanced math. But, I wonder if we'll need tutors for other subjects also. You rarely hear about people getting tutors for science, English, history, etc.

I don't understand why people pay these rates for math tutors. Go to Khan Academy for FREE! You can track their lessons and see the progress. Both of my kids have done this for the past 4 summers (1 hour / day). If you want, add an incentive (money) for the points they collect on the site.

$50/hr for our 4th grader in math. Tutor decided he could get away with 1/2 hour ($25) once a week. I think it was really helpful for him.

I remember doing this as an honors student in high school for about $15-$20/hr (this was about 15-20 years ago).

Well it is all depends of a child. One of my children is in technical magnet (with the most advanced math option allowed in magnet), who does not need any tutors but we have English tutor, since English is terrible in school and I know that essay writing is my child's really weak spot.

Your child may need tutors in any subjects for AP classes in HS.

Here's a question: If a child is in advance math and performing well, but needs a tutor, should he be in advance math or should parents move him back to regular math where he presumably wouldn't need a tutor?

OP, I'm a certified teacher in both special ed and HS science and math. I'm also ES/MS certified as a generalist. I tutor mostly HS students in math, although sometimes science or standardized test prep. Very occasionally, I get asked to tutor AP classes in a Humanities subject, for which I have an advanced degree.

I charge $75/hr for tutoring in the child's home or at a location close by that is convenient for the family. I charge $50/hr for standardized test prep and provide materials.

Certified 6-12 math teacher. Currently teaching algebra and geometry, so for my own sanity I only tutor those courses. I charge $30-50/hour, depending on the circumstances. I've done it for free when the child has extenuating circumstances. This is Ffx county.
