Aaargh....forgot ADHD meds

Anonymous
On a weekend getaway and just realized we forgot to bring a pill for tomorrow for my kid. Am trying to decide whether I should drive 4 hours r/t tonight to go get it. Other than high protein meals is there anything else I can do to help carry him over? I'm feeling like the trip is probably now ruined.

See if you can get the doc to call in a RX to a local pharmacy.

This sounds crazy, my son has ADHD and he goes weekends without his pill. He is more annoying and forgetful etc, but we never give him meds on vacation. Start parenting.

+1 I'd try this before driving back home.

Vitamin B supplement from a drug store might help too, plus some caffeine.

If it is a controlled substance it cannot be called into a pharmacy.

This is true. Perhaps some vigorous activity or exercise first thing in the morning will help a little.

Not OP, but this is not helpful. It's great that your child doesn't need meds in the weekend but not all kids are like yours. My child cannot function without his meds.

OP -- it might be a long weekend. I'm so sorry about this.

You're an asshole, PP.

Doctor can place the prescription electronically, if he or she has the capability.

How old? Does he ever have caffeine?

As a mom with a kid who has signs of ADHD, I'm curious what you mean about "not being able to function" without meds. What does that look like?

What will he be doing for the day? Unless he is taking the SATs or something important that requires concentration, etc, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on him and make him aware that he doesn't have it in his system. My son is super annoying and impulsive w/o meds but I've forgotten them before. I just subtract 5-6 yrs from his age and treat him accordingly.

There are so many levels of wrong here. Do you not parent when your child is on his ADHD medicine? Why would you assume that she is not parenting? Also, as other pps pointed out some kids need the ADHD medicine every day. I have one who does and one who does not. We tried to go without on the weekends but they could not function at all. My other kid can take a break but, takes it when she needs to do some summer work.

So, if you don't understand or haven't experience it please keep your unhelpful comments to yourself. You have no idea.

Not OP, but my DD has severe ADHD. Without medication, she is completely unable to sit still, unable to comply with the simplest directions, extremely irritable and impulsive to the point of being a danger to herself and others.
