Aaargh....forgot ADHD meds

If you DS is on a stimulant, maybe caffeine will help? Counterintuitive I know, but so are stimulants. Many, many adults self-medicate ADHD that way.

BTW-- I know hindsight is 20/20, but I carry a 2 day supply on my meds plus kids ADHD meds in my purse. We love in DC and stuff happens...

Did you read what the pp wrote? Her kid [b]does have ADHD but only uses it during the school week. Mine does the same thing. They still have ADHD on the weekends but it is a way to give them a break. Sometimes if they don't have an appetite because of the meds, than they can eat more during the weekends.

My DD is ADHD inattentive and if she didn't take it during school she would daydream the day away and miss a lot of the instruction ( I was the same way but, didn't know anything about ADHD, inattentive)

So give the pp a break.

That's probably the difference. Kids that have ADHD-Inattentive type need the medication mostly to focus. Kids that have ADHD-Implusive Type or Combined Type need the medication to control their bodies and their emotions. Unlike focusing at school, body and emotional regulation still need to happen on the weekends and on vacation.

We're out of state so I do t think there's anything the doctor can do. He had previous told me that pharmacies outside state would not honor the prescription. Without the meds, he's almost totally incontinent, tends to run off, and often hits. This is going to be so miserable -- I'm not going to be able to blink all day. but I don't want to cancel, as this trip was my other child's birthday present. I could shoot myself for forgetting but my spouse is in charge of giving him his daily dose so it just wasn't on my radar.

I'm sorry OP. My kid is another who, as her doctor put it, puts the H in ADHD LOL. Without her meds she is a danger to herself. Personally, I would drive round trip.

Yes, I do this too. I carry a 2-3 day supply at all times. Not that it helps you now.

Like a PP mentioned, my DD's doctor sends the scrips electronically. She has a secure token that enables her to log into the system and do this. It makes things so much easier on all of us.

Yes, I've come to realize in the last year or so that parents of ADHD inattentive kids have no idea about what it is like to parent an ADHD combined kid.

How old is this child, OP?

Does your son like the pool? My ADHD son loves the pool and getting his energy out with swimming helps his behavior.

He does have adhd. He had signs at 3 years old, diagnosed at 8yrs. Diagnosed by multiple docs. Sees a psychologist. Etc.

BTW his working memory is 6th percentile yet he still manages OK.
There are tons of kids with adhd that don't take meds on weekends. He is underweight and uses weekends to catch up on sleep.

Not OP, but this is not helpful. It's great that your child doesn't need meds in the weekend but not all kids are like yours. My child cannot function without his meds.

OP -- it might be a long weekend. I'm so sorry about this.

As a mom with a kid who has signs of ADHD, I'm curious what you mean about "not being able to function" without meds. What does that look like?

Not OP, but my DD has severe ADHD. Without medication, she is completely unable to sit still, unable to comply with the simplest directions, extremely irritable and impulsive to the point of being a danger to herself and others.
